The Compact Player is a streaming source that includes its own DAC and analogue outputs, made by Nagra, the Swiss brand of Audio Technology Switzerland SA, and it belongs to the Compact series. It was announced on 25 February 2026 at EUR 6,500 and USD 7,500. Because it converts the signal itself, it connects straight to an amplifier without a separate DAC. The Compact series also includes the Compact VFS isolation platform and the Compact PSU.
Key specs that matter
The DAC handles PCM up to 32 bit and 384 kHz, DXD and DSD256. Noise is -140 dB A-weighted, THD+N is 0.04% at 1 kHz and -3 dBFS, and output impedance is 14 ohm. The analogue output is on RCA sockets. Network connection is by Ethernet RJ45, and a USB-A port accepts a hard drive or memory stick. Streaming covers Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, vTuner and UPnP/DLNA, and the player is Roon Ready, Roon Tested and JPLAY certified, and it works with Audirvana. Control is through the free mConnect app for iOS and Android. An external 12 V DC supply rated at about 0.7 A is included, and consumption is about 10 W, more with a USB hard drive connected. The case measures 185 x 166 x 41 mm and weighs 1.9 kg.
Engineering and use context
Nagra uses a bought-in DAC chipset rather than its own NADM module, and its development work went into the clock design, the regulation of the power supply and the layout of the circuit board. Low clock jitter matters because timing errors at the converter turn into distortion in the analogue output, and clean regulated supply rails keep noise away from the converter's reference voltages. The analogue stage is dual mono, with separate circuitry for each channel, so the channels do not share components that could couple them. The chassis is CNC-machined from a solid billet of aluminium, which makes a rigid, shielded case. The supplied supply can be replaced by the Nagra Compact PSU, and owners of a Nagra MPS or Classic PSU can run the player from those supplies with an optional cable, so the power supply can be upgraded later without changing the player.
Pairing
The RCA outputs can go to a line input on any preamplifier or integrated amplifier, including Nagra's own amplifiers. The Compact VFS platform is designed to isolate the player from its shelf, and a USB drive can hold a local library alongside the streaming services.
Alternatives
The Nagra Streamer uses the same case but has no DAC, sending its output over N-Link optical or S/PDIF to a separate converter.
