The Scion is the entry-level music server and streamer from Pink Faun, the Dutch company based in Rhenen. Rather than adapting the technology of the 2.16 Ultra, Pink Faun designed the Scion from scratch, including new power supplies and its own operating system. It was released in 2025.
Key specs that matter
Internal storage is 1 TB as standard, with 4 TB and 8 TB options. Digital outputs are USB, S/PDIF on RCA and AES/EBU. USB carries PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD512, and S/PDIF carries PCM. The USB output uses an ASMedia ASM3142 chipset with an upgraded clock circuit and low-noise regulators. The network connection is Ethernet only, with no Wi-Fi. External USB3 drives and NAS are supported. The Scion is Roon Ready and runs Pink Faun OS. Cooling is passive, and the warranty is three years. The case measures 450 mm wide, 355 mm deep and 120 mm high, weighs 15 kg and comes in anodised silver or black finishes. The US price is USD 20,000.
Engineering and use context
The Scion has two completely new power supplies, the main module supplemented by an additional low-noise source based on supercapacitors. Independent supply outputs for the digital outputs let USB and the S/PDIF or AES/EBU outputs run at once, and Pink Faun states this improves stability and reduces noise. Pink Faun OS was written by the company to optimise both playback and control, and Pink Faun developed a way for Roon to control playback while its own OS handles the audio. Streaming covers Tidal, Qobuz and KKBox, and multi-room playback is supported through Roon. The Scion has no display, since control happens from a tablet or phone through Roon or a web interface. There is no conventional power switch, only a standby button under the front panel, and the unit stays cool in standby. With no moving parts or fans inside, it runs silently. Pink Faun first entered streaming years ago with its 3.4 streamer and 3.32 DAC, and the Scion reflects the founder Jord's wish to build a platform from the operating system upward. Pink Faun shipped the first units to distributors at the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Pairing
The Scion needs an external DAC with USB, S/PDIF or AES/EBU input, and its AES/EBU output suits professional and high-end converters. A Roon subscription is required for control.
Alternatives
Pink Faun's 2.16 Ultra is the brand's higher music server and streamer with modular construction.
