The Mini Terra Prime is a compact movie server from Kaleidescape of Mountain View, California, announced on 18 November 2025 as the smallest member of the Terra Prime family. It stores films downloaded from the Kaleidescape store for playback on the company's Strato players, priced at USD 5,995 to 7,995.

Key specs that matter

Storage is 8 TB of solid-state memory on two integrated 4 TB TLC flash drives. That holds about 125 to 130 high-bitrate 4K films, about 75 4K Cinematic or 8K films, 216 HD films or 1,200 SD films, which works out at about 9.4 8K or 4K Cinematic, 16.5 4K or 27 HD films per terabyte. Over a 2.5 Gb Ethernet connection a 4K film downloads in as little as four minutes, and the server supports up to 25 simultaneous playbacks. Wired Ethernet is required, with 2.5 Gb recommended and 1 Gb as the minimum, and a USB 3.0 port is reserved. The case measures 16.3 x 3 x 16.3 cm and weighs 0.77 kg. Typical consumption is 15 W and maximum 23 W, supplied by an external 60 W adapter from 100 to 240 V AC to 12 V DC at 5 A. The operating range is 10 to 35 degrees C and 20 to 80% humidity, at altitudes up to about 3,000 m.

Engineering and use context

The server uses the same processor and memory as the Compact and Full-size Terra Prime models, so it has the same performance with less storage. Its footprint matches the Strato M and E players, and the case is architectural-grade black painted steel with a mosaic vent pattern. It is cooled by convection without a fan, which makes it the quietest Terra server, and it needs at least 6 mm of clearance above it with circulating air. Solid-state storage has no moving parts, so the server makes no drive noise and is not sensitive to vibration. Up to four Terra servers can be grouped in one system with any number of Strato players, and it works with the Strato V, E and M. Rack and wall mounts are sold separately. The small size lets the server sit next to the player or out of sight in a cabinet, and because the mains adapter is external, the case itself carries only low-voltage DC. In the same family, the Full-size Terra Prime uses hard drives and reaches 120 TB, with versions of 96, 72, 48, 30 and 18 TB, while the Compact model uses solid-state storage.

Pairing

A Kaleidescape Strato V, E or M player connects over the same wired network, and several players can share the library for different rooms.
