The Fitzwilliam Connect CD from the British brand Majority is a disc and streaming source built to sit in a stack of hi-fi separates and feed an amplifier or a set of powered monitors already in the system. It arrived in August 2026 together with a matching streaming amplifier and a combined CD amplifier, and it was the least expensive of the three at GBP 179.95 or EUR 199. The player has no amplification of its own, so every function is aimed at delivering a line or digital signal to other equipment.

Key specs that matter

A slot-loading drive reads factory-pressed discs, while burned CD-R and rewritable CD-RW discs are read as well. Streaming comes through Spotify Connect, including Spotify Lossless, and the unit also plays internet radio stations and podcasts. Broadcast reception covers DAB, DAB+ and FM with RDS. Bluetooth 5.2 accepts streams sent from a phone, while a USB socket reads MP3 files from storage devices of up to 128 GB. The chassis measures 435 x 74 x 297 mm and weighs 3.2 kg, which places it in the full-width format of conventional separates.

Engineering and use context

Because the Fitzwilliam CD is purely a source, Majority fitted it with a broad set of connections. There is a stereo RCA line output for analogue amplifiers, while optical and coaxial digital outputs allow a separate converter or a DAC-equipped amplifier to take the bitstream directly. A stereo RCA input brings another analogue component into the unit, and a 3.5 mm headphone socket on the front allows private listening without the rest of the system switched on. Information appears on a 3.2-inch colour display. Operation is possible from the front panel, from the supplied remote handset or through the OKTIV app on a smartphone, which also handles the streaming services. The slot mechanism means no tray extends from the fascia, so the player can be placed on a shelf with little free space in front.

Pairing

The natural partner is the Fitzwilliam Connect Amp from the same series, a 200 W Class D streaming amplifier in an identical width that can be stacked directly under or above the player. Owners who already have an integrated amplifier can run the analogue output into a spare line input, and active speakers with analogue or digital inputs accept the signal without an amplifier between them. Using the coaxial or optical output with a better converter is a simple later upgrade path.

Alternatives

Majority lists no second standalone CD player in its hi-fi catalogue, so this Fitzwilliam unit has no sibling in its class.
