The CD 2.10 is a CD player and valve DAC from Canor Audio of Slovakia. It reads discs through a quiet slot-in drive and also works as a standalone converter for external digital sources. The aluminium front panel comes in black or silver, a large dot-matrix display shows basic information, and the box includes a handset. The European price is EUR 3,800 and the UK price GBP 3,499.

Key specs that matter

An AK4490 32-bit DAC chip performs conversion, and a sample rate converter lifts every incoming rate, whether from USB, S/PDIF or the disc, to 192 kHz, with jitter quoted at up to 50 ps. CD data is therefore upsampled to 24 bit and 192 kHz before conversion. Its USB input takes PCM up to 32 bit and 768 kHz and DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256. Canor gives a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz within plus or minus 0.8 dB, total harmonic distortion below 0.005% at 1 kHz with signal-to-noise ratio beyond 102 dB measured from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Output impedance is below 150 ohm, and the analogue outputs deliver 2 V RMS on RCA and 4 V RMS on XLR. The player measures 435 x 120 x 405 mm, weighs 12 kg and draws 52 VA from a 230 V, 50 Hz supply.

Engineering and use context

Once converted, the analogue signal passes through strictly symmetrical valve circuits built around four 6922 tubes. Analogue and digital sections are kept apart and receive independent power, and the input toroidal transformer is compact, with a low radiated magnetic field and low mechanical hum. Filtering after the converter uses super symmetrical passive filters tuned for steep slopes. Canor mills the circuit boards using CMT, the CANOR PCB Milling Technology, and the coaxial input is isolated by a high-frequency transformer.

Pairing

Digital inputs are USB-B, optical and coaxial, letting a computer or network player feed the internal converter, while optical and coaxial outputs pass a digital signal to another device. Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA analogue outputs allow either cable type to reach an amplifier or preamplifier, and a fixed output level means volume is left to the amplifier. Canor offers the AI 2.10 amplifier as a matching partner.

Alternatives

The Canor CD 1.10 is another valve CD player and DAC from the brand and its first precision valve disc player, pairing a 24-bit converter with a decoupled drive and a pure valve output stage.
