The Attessa CD Transport is a disc transport from Roksan, the British company from Rayleigh, Essex, founded on 9 August 1985 by Tufan Hashemi and Touraj Moghaddam and owned by Monitor Audio since November 2016. It belongs to the Attessa range launched on 7 July 2021, alongside a turntable, the Attessa Integrated Amplifier at GBP 1,100 and the Attessa Streaming Amplifier at GBP 1,600. Lacking an internal DAC, it is designed to feed the converter built into an Attessa amplifier. The price is GBP 550.

Key specs that matter

Red Book CD and CD-R audio discs are played. Its single digital output is a coaxial S/PDIF socket carrying 16 bit and 44.1 kHz data, and there is no optical output. A connecting cable to the amplifier is included. The front panel carries buttons for standby, eject, previous track, play and pause, and next track. The case is formed plated steel with a machined anodised aluminium front panel, in black or silver. It measures 432 x 76 x 349 mm and weighs 6.1 kg. Roksan gives a five-year warranty, and new stock is due in November 2026.

Engineering and use context

Roksan designed the transport in-house with minimal circuitry on board and a shortened signal path from the laser, which the company says lowers jitter and distortion in the output signal. Without a DAC or analogue stage, the unit has one job, reading the disc and sending the data onward, and all conversion takes place in the amplifier, whose converter then handles the CD data at its native rate. The infrared remote also operates the Attessa amplifiers, so one handset covers the whole system. The MaestroUnite app handles system setup and advanced settings, and it delivers over-the-air firmware updates via Wi-Fi, so the transport's software can be updated without a service visit. Bluetooth Low Energy lets the app switch the transport on and off from a phone. The Attessa amplifiers share the same footprint, so the transport stacks with them in a matching column on a shelf or rack, and the matching front panels line up.

Pairing

Both Attessa amplifiers are the intended partners, and the supplied cable connects the transport to their digital input. Any other amplifier or standalone converter with coaxial S/PDIF works equally well, as does a digital recorder with a coaxial input.

Alternatives

Roksan has no other current CD model, as the Attessa transport is the only disc product in its range.
