The Shockwave 15 is the larger of two cube-shaped powered subwoofers from Von Schweikert Audio, the American loudspeaker maker, sitting above the Shockwave 12 and built around a 15 inch driver. A Shockwave 10 was announced for spring 2025, and the company now also lists the same design family under the ARIS name, where the 15 inch version carries identical figures.
Key specs that matter
Its one driver has a light and stiff carbon fiber cone, a vented voice coil and a high-mass motor structure. Power comes from an onboard amplifier using the company's Foundation technology, rated at 1000 W. Published frequency range starts at 8 Hz and runs to 180 Hz within plus or minus 1 dB, while the loading description quotes usable sub-bass extension down to 12 Hz. The enclosure is a cube about 48.2 cm on each side, and each unit weighs roughly 65.7 kg. The 4 ohm impedance figure and a recommended minimum of 50 W refer to the main amplifier that feeds the sub at speaker level, not to the internal amplification.
Engineering and use context
Instead of a sealed box, the cabinet uses slotted-port quasi-transmission line loading, so the rear output of the cone travels along a folded path before leaving through a slot. Like other Von Schweikert products, the enclosure follows the brand's triple-wall construction, developed with researchers from Cal Tech, which combines HDF, synthetic stone and damping material to control panel resonance. The Foundation amplifier stage includes an isolation transformer, so the signal can be taken directly from the output terminals of the system's main power amplifier. The company states that this path gives clean signal tracking, low distortion and no added signal delay. Phase can be set anywhere from 0 to 360 degrees, in standard or inverted polarity, which helps align the sub with main speakers positioned at another distance from the seat. A stacking feature for combining several units in larger spaces was announced for the first quarter of 2025.
Pairing
Because the preferred connection is a speaker-level feed from the power amplifier, the Shockwave 15 suits stereo systems built around separate or integrated amplifiers that deliver at least the recommended wattage into its input load. It is designed to integrate with Von Schweikert floorstanding models, and the compact cube footprint makes corner or side-wall placement practical in a 20 m2 listening room.
Alternatives
The Von Schweikert Shockwave 12 uses the same Foundation amplifier and low-frequency rating in a smaller and lighter cube.
