The iLoud Sub is a compact active subwoofer from IK Multimedia, the Italian maker of music technology products, designed to extend the bass of nearfield monitors with 3 to 7 inch woofers from any brand. IK names its own iLoud Micro Monitor, Micro Monitor Pro, iLoud MTM and Precision 5 as partners and describes the iLoud Sub as the subwoofer with the smallest footprint on the market. It was announced on 20 November 2025 and shipped from December 2025 at USD 599.99 and EUR 599.99.

Key specs that matter

One 6.5 inch aluminium woofer works with two 6.5 inch aluminium passive radiators. Its Class D amplifier gives 160 W RMS and 200 W peak. Frequency response is 25 to 150 Hz at -6 dB, and maximum level is 106 dB SPL peak at 40 Hz. The digital crossover is adjustable from 50 to 150 Hz with selectable filter modes, and all functions run under DSP control. Analogue inputs come as two XLR and two RCA sockets plus a USB digital input, and the outputs mirror them in the same XLR and RCA pairs. Bluetooth streaming is built in, with a pairing button, and a multicolour LED shows the status. The subwoofer measures 24.4 x 25 x 28.3 cm and weighs 7.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

A passive radiator is a driver without a motor, driven only by the changing air pressure in the box, and two of them take the place of a port. In a cabinet this small, a port long enough for deep tuning would not fit, and passive radiators also avoid the air noise a narrow port produces at high levels. Mounting the radiators in pairs balances their forces on the cabinet. Aluminium cones are stiff, so the woofer and radiators move as solid pistons at high excursion. A Class D amplifier wastes little power as heat, which allows the rated output from a compact box without large heat sinks. The subwoofer sits between the source and the monitors, taking the signal in and passing it on through its outputs, and the phase between the subwoofer and the monitors can be aligned automatically, so that their outputs add up around the crossover frequency instead of partly cancelling. The USB input lets a computer feed the system directly, and Bluetooth lets a phone play through it. XLR sockets suit studio audio interfaces, and RCA sockets suit consumer sources. The small footprint fits under a desk and in tight spaces, including multichannel surround setups.

Pairing

With its adjustable crossover, the sub can handle everything below the point where small monitors begin to lose output, so the smallest monitors can use a high setting and larger ones a lower one, in a room of about 20 m2 or less.
