The Diana III-F is a modular bass extender from Gold Note of Florence, part of its Diana loudspeaker line. It sits beneath the Diana I or Diana II stand-mount to turn it into a floorstanding loudspeaker, extending its bass range. Gold Note describes it as the first modular extender of its kind.
Key specs that matter
It uses a 6.5 in fibreglass woofer with a neodymium magnet, facing downwards, tuned by a front bass reflex port. Frequency response extends to 38 Hz. Sensitivity is 91 dB and impedance 8 ohms. The extender measures 24.0 x 53.4 x 40.0 cm and weighs 22 kg. The cabinet is black scratch-resistant lacquer. Four adjustable spikes on a dedicated stand couple it to the floor.
Engineering and use context
Micro neodymium magnets hidden in the top of the cabinet position the Diana I or II precisely, and a custom bridge carries the audio signal between the two while adding the structural rigidity of a single floorstanding cabinet. The downward-facing woofer radiates towards the floor, and the front port means the speaker can stand close to a rear wall without the bass becoming uneven. The cabinet is shaped and treated to reduce vibration. The Diana line is designed for high sensitivity, and Gold Note states it can be driven by amplifiers of as little as 10 W. The Diana I is an 88 dB rear-ported two-way with a 6.5 in driver, and the Diana II is a more sensitive model with two 6.5 in drivers. The range uses a resilient fabric finish made from recycled materials used in racing-car seats, laminated to internal foam damping, and a mechanical dome phaser in front of the tweeter for wide dispersion. The line also includes the Diana Center, Gold Note's first home cinema product. The modular approach lets owners start with stand-mounts and add the extenders later. Owners who choose the Diana I can later move to the Diana II on the same extenders, since the automatic recognition adapts to either model. The integrated low-pass filter works at around 80 Hz, so the stand-mount and the extender divide the band correctly.
Pairing
The Diana III-F works only with the Diana I and Diana II stand-mounts. With the more sensitive Diana II on top, the combination runs from low-powered amplifiers, including Gold Note's own integrated models.
Alternatives
Gold Note has no other subwoofer or bass extender, since the Diana III-F is the brand's only model of this kind.
