The Aurus is a subwoofer from Estelon, the Estonian loudspeaker company known for its sculpted composite cabinets. It was introduced at High End Munich 2025 alongside the Aurelia loudspeaker and Aurelia Centre, designed to integrate with Estelon's A Series speakers, the Aura and Aurelle. Estelon's aim is a subwoofer that disappears into the room, leaving only the extended bass.
Key specs that matter
It is a one-way active design with a 12 in long-excursion driver with a 3 in voice coil rated for 300 W continuous and a passive radiator. The amplifier is a 1,200 W bridged Class D design, rated at 1,200 W short-term RMS. Frequency response is 18 to 45 Hz with the Aura, or 18 to 75 Hz with the Aurelle. The active line input is XLR with 10 kohm impedance, and the passive high-level input uses banana plugs and has an impedance above 470 ohms. Level adjusts by +/-6 dB on the active input, and 0 or +3 dB on the passive input. The subwoofer measures 490 x 330 x 450 mm high, wide and deep, at 45 kg. Internal cabling is by Kubala-Sosna.
Engineering and use context
The cabinet combines precision-milled plywood with a thermoformed, mineral-doped composite shell, forming a rigid, inert enclosure whose curved shape suppresses resonance and internal standing waves. Because of the shape, all finishing is done by hand. The custom-designed passive radiator extends the low-frequency response without a port, avoiding port noise and boominess. The Class D amplifier is bridged to lower distortion and has high current capability for control at high output levels. Two input paths are provided. The active XLR input has built-in filtering for use from a preamplifier, and the passive high-level input takes a speaker-level signal from the main amplifier. Four filter profiles, selected by switches on the rear panel, are optimised for the Aura and Aurelle loudspeakers, so the subwoofer's crossover matches the speaker it accompanies. Finishes include white, gloss black, Horizon Blue, Starlight, Iron Grey and Amber Elegance. The Australian price was AUD 21,995, and in New Zealand it sold for about NZD 25,000 to 30,000 depending on finish.
Pairing
The Aurus is designed for Estelon's Aura and Aurelle loudspeakers, using their matching filter profiles. With other speakers, the XLR input and level control allow integration through a preamplifier.
Alternatives
Estelon offers no second subwoofer, so the Aurus is unique in its range.
