The WVL 12439 STAGE+ is a two-module tower speaker built by Wolf von Langa in Neunkirchen am Brand, Germany. It is related to the company's SON model but uses a permanent rare earth magnet in place of an electromagnet, which removes the need for a field coil supply. The price starts at EUR 20,000.

Key specs that matter

Wolf von Langa builds it as a two-way layout plus a passive radiator tuned on the Helmholtz resonator idea and a jet tweeter. Response runs from 35 Hz to 25,000 Hz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 94 dB for 1 W at 1 m and the nominal load is 8 ohm. The speaker takes 250 W continuous and 1,500 W as a 10 ms impulse. The bass and midrange module measures 404 x 700 x 300 mm and the treble module 404 x 170 x 60 mm, for an overall height of 872 mm, and the complete speaker weighs 32 kg with grilles.

Engineering and use context

On the front of the lower module, a single bass and midrange driver offers an effective cone area of 530 cm2. Its silk paper cone is stiff against twisting yet light, and a textile surround allows long excursion. The motor has a vented air gap and an impedance control ring. On the back, a flat passive membrane matched to the active driver works without flow noise. The treble module carries a magnetostatic dipole panel radiator, mounted asymmetrically and decoupled from cabinet resonance. Because it attaches by magnets, the listener can shift it to set stereo base width and time alignment for the seat. The cabinet is acoustically inert high density fibreboard with PMMA on both faces, or real wood. The treble panel itself is clear acrylic polished to a high gloss, and an aluminium front and mounting bracket hold it in place.

Pairing

The crossover has separate treble and bass sections bridged internally, using copper air core coils and quality capacitors, and it connects through WBT nextgen PlasmaProtect copper terminals suited to bi-wiring or bi-amping. With its high efficiency, the STAGE+ runs well from low powered amplifiers, including small valve designs. Out of the factory the cabinet is gloss black and ships with a black acoustic cover, while the same real wood veneers offered on the SON can be ordered. PMMA with high internal damping is also used within the structure, and the jet tweeter is chosen for its defined dispersion pattern. The same WVL 12439 number was carried by the earlier STAGE model.

Alternatives

For a field coil version on the same cabinet format, Wolf von Langa offers the WVL 12639 SON, listed at EUR 22,600 per pair with a 20 Hz lower limit.
