The Vittora is a horn loudspeaker system from Volti Audio, the Greg Roberts company that builds horn speakers by hand, and the maker describes it as the most ambitious loudspeaker it has created. The complete system pairs two-piece main speakers, a folded bass horn topped by a separate horn section, with an ELF bass cabinet, and Volti builds Vittora systems only occasionally, offering them when completed.
Key specs that matter
Sensitivity is quoted at 104 dB for 1 W at 1 m, and power handling is 200 W continuous. The full system covers 25 Hz to 20 kHz, with the main speakers handling 50 Hz to 20 kHz and the ELF cabinet 25 Hz to 50 Hz. Each main speaker measures about 813 mm wide at the front, 381 mm at the rear, 686 mm deep and 1016 mm tall. The folded bass horn weighs about 58 kg and the upper horn section about 27 kg. The ELF cabinet is about 610 mm wide at the front, 152 mm at the rear, 610 mm deep and 686 mm tall, and weighs about 52 kg. The complete set of the original version was priced at USD 25,750 direct from the maker. A redeveloped Vittora, the result of a four-year rework, debuted at the Florida International Audio Expo in Tampa in February 2025. It is described as a three-way, fully horn-loaded system with an 8 ohm impedance and a power range of 0.5 to 200 W per channel, supplied with two ELF12 bass cabinets, two ELFamp amplifier and processor units and an ELFpre controller with remote, for USD 50,000.
Engineering and use context
The bass section of each main speaker places a 15 inch woofer in a folded horn. Midrange comes from a large-format compression driver with a 3.5 inch voice coil and a phenolic diaphragm, identified as a BMS 4592, feeding a rectangular horn with a 2 inch throat and a Tractrix flare, built from plywood and bendable hardwood. Treble is handled by a 1 inch compression driver mounted on an elliptical Tractrix horn. Hand-wired crossover networks sit inside the top horn section and include adjustable balancing options. Below the main speakers' range the ELF cabinet takes over with an 18 inch driver in a bass reflex enclosure. Volti offers six real wood veneers, applied with vacuum bags and urethane glue.
Pairing
With such high sensitivity, amplifiers of only a few watts are enough for the main speakers, and the continuous power rating covers larger solid-state designs as well. The main speakers can be used on their own, while the ELF cabinet is offered as an optional subwoofer for the lowest octave. Buyers are asked to contact Volti directly, as systems are completed individually before sale.
Alternatives
The Volti Audio Rival uses the same drivers as the Vittora in a simpler floorstanding cabinet.
