The Versura V4 is a floorstanding loudspeaker from AUER ACOUSTICS and the larger of the two Versura towers, built as a four-way closed box (a 3.5-way layout in some descriptions) with a side-firing woofer added to the driver set of the Versura V2. The front view matches the V2 in height and width, while the depth grows to make room for the extra bass unit.

Key specs that matter

Drivers comprise a 34 mm beryllium dome tweeter, a 12 cm midrange, an 18 cm bass-midrange and a 32 cm woofer mounted on the side panel. AUER quotes a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB. Sensitivity is 90 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, nominal impedance is 8 ohm, and the impedance does not fall below 6 ohm. AUER recommends at least 20 W of amplifier power per channel. Overall size is 119.1 x 22 x 46 cm (H x W x D), and one cabinet weighs 102.6 kg.

Engineering and use context

Like the rest of the series, the V4 is built from tankwood, a dense natural wood pressed under extreme pressure with phenolic resin. AUER explains that this process combines the character of wood with the stability of a synthetic material and still keeps internal damping in the panels. The sealed box means no bass port, and the deepest bass comes from the side woofer working in a closed volume. Placing this large woofer in a side panel keeps the baffle width equal to that of the smaller model. Crossover parts include Mundorf silver, gold and oil capacitors plus Jantzen parts, and the internal wire is supplied from Van den Hul with a high silver content. The terminal panel is prepared for optional bi-wiring. Buyers pick one of ten colours, from Slate Grey Neo and Pure Orange to Shade Green Metallic, each available as a matte or high-gloss surface. Tankwood is heavier than MDF of the same thickness, and with more than 100 kg per cabinet, delivery and placement need two or more people.

Pairing

With good sensitivity and a load that stays moderate, the V4 works with many transistor amplifiers as well as capable valve designs, and the low recommended power means large power reserves are not mandatory. The optional bi-wire terminals make it possible to wire the low and high sections with individual cables.

Alternatives

The AUER ACOUSTICS Versura V2 keeps the same tweeter and midrange in a shallower 35 cm cabinet with two 18 cm bass-midrange units and no side woofer.
