The Uni-Fi 2.0 UF52 is the passive tower of the second-generation Uni-Fi range from ELAC, a three-way bass reflex design that uses the same drivers and technology as the other models in the series. ELAC America lists it with a regular price of USD 799 per speaker, sold singly, and it comes in one black ash vinyl finish with a fabric grille included.

The UF52 combines a 1 inch soft dome tweeter mounted concentrically inside a 4 inch aluminium midrange cone, and three 5.25 inch aluminium woofers handle the bass. The crossover hands over at 200 Hz and 2,000 Hz. ELAC rates the frequency response at 42 Hz to 35,000 Hz, with a nominal impedance of 6 ohm and a sensitivity of 85 dB measured at 2.83 V and 1 m. Maximum power input is 140 W. The cabinet measures 185 mm wide, 980 mm tall and 275 mm deep, and one speaker weighs 19.73 kg.

Engineering and use context

ELAC describes the UF52 as a true three-way system, meaning the midrange works as a separate band between the woofers and the tweeter rather than sharing duty with the bass drivers. The concentric unit is custom designed and uses a wide-surround tweeter. The aluminium woofer is a newer version with improved stiffness and an oversized magnet, and the Uni-Fi 2.0 generation adds a more complex crossover than before. The outer walls are thick MDF, and internal bracing placed at specific points adds stiffness and strength to those walls. Bass loading comes from front-firing port tubes, and connection is through custom 5-way binding posts. ELAC positions the model as a compact floorstander for larger spaces where more bass output is wanted than a stand-mount can give.

Pairing

The moderate load and sensitivity point to an amplifier of at least 40 W per channel that stays within the maximum input rating. ELAC lists no magnetic shielding for the cabinet. Within the Uni-Fi 2.0 family, the UB52 bookshelf model and the UC52 centre share the same driver technology, so the UF52 can take the main left and right positions in a multichannel system built from one series.
