The Triple5 is a three-way horn-loaded floorstanding loudspeaker from Vitavox, developed from the classic Vitavox Oracle. Its name refers to the Alnico5 magnet material used in all three of its drive units. The system includes the Vitavox T3 module for high-frequency time domain control. Vitavox presents it as an expandable platform, since an optional powered bass unit turns it into a four-way configuration.

Key specs that matter

Vitavox fits a 15 inch Vitavox LGK151 bass unit, a Vitavox S4 midrange pressure unit and a Vitavox TR32B tweeter. Every band is horn-loaded. Vitavox gives the range as 70 Hz to 21 kHz within 6 dB, the sensitivity as 103 dB at 1 W and 1 m and the system impedance as 15 ohms, with a power handling of 100 W. The midrange horn disperses over 90 degrees horizontally and 20 degrees vertically, the tweeter over 120 by 40 degrees. The cabinet stands 1400 mm tall, 660 mm wide and 620 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 118 kg.

Engineering and use context

The LGK151 feeds a long, exponentially expanding bass horn, while the rear bass chamber is ported and coupled to a ventilated plinth. High-frequency time alignment is handled inside the T3 module. The bands are divided by an outboard Vitavox NW500X crossover, and the signal path uses Vitavox SC1 oxygen-free copper cables with VX4-B terminations. The enclosure is beech plywood with extensive internal bracing. The standard veneer pairs crown walnut with Swiss pear, and other finishes can be ordered, finished either with a lacquer of acrylic polyurethane built up in multiple coats or with oil polished by hand. Each cabinet rests on manually adjustable point supports set into a contoured sub-base. Adding the optional Tremor Active Bass System extends the response by roughly one more octave at the low end and turns the Triple5 into a four-way loudspeaker.

Pairing

With such high sensitivity, very small amplifiers are enough, and single-ended triode designs are among the options. The 15 ohm impedance places a light current load on the amplifier, and valve units with a 16 ohm output tap connect at their intended rating. Because the crossover sits outside the cabinet, the network box has to be placed near each speaker.
