The Tribe Tower Thunderbird is a floorstanding loudspeaker from Totem Acoustic, the company Vince Bruzzese founded in Montreal in 1987 and where he remains chief designer, first shown at AXPONA, held in Chicago on 11-13 April 2025, and scheduled for availability in summer 2025. It builds on the slim Tribe Tower with newly engineered drivers and a graphene tweeter, and US pricing is USD 13,500 per pair, while gloss finishes with WBT terminals add USD 1,500.

Key specs that matter

This is a dual ported two-way design. The new mid-bass driver took three years to develop. Two 6 inch Torrent mid-bass drivers with a multi-layer voice coil and revised magnet geometry work alongside a 1.3 inch graphene dome tweeter mounted on a 6 mm machined aluminium faceplate. Frequency response is 28.5 Hz to 29 kHz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 90 dB at 1 W and 1 m, and nominal impedance is 6 ohm. Totem recommends amplifiers of 30 W to 200 W. The crossover point is 2.5 kHz with a first order slope. The cabinet has a slim upper section of 106.68 x 16.5 x 19.05 cm and a wider base of 106.68 x 24.13 x 29.21 cm, and each speaker weighs 16.10 kg.

Engineering and use context

The two Torrent woofers have no crossover in their signal path, a long standing Totem approach, so only the tweeter is filtered. The enclosure is a monocoque with no parallel surfaces, and a borosilicate liner damps the cabinet from inside. The shape is obelisk-like, wider at the foot and narrowing towards the top. A decoupling system at the base rests on four precision ball bearings of 16 mm. The quoted frequency response is an in-room figure. Finish options are Satin White, Satin Black, Dusk in black gloss and Ice in white gloss. The Dusk and Ice versions come with WBT 4-way speaker terminals, while the satin versions use solid twin pairs of gold plated terminals, and magnetic grilles are supplied with all finishes.

Pairing

Totem makes the Tribe Sub within the same Tribe family for systems that add a dedicated subwoofer. The Tribe Tower Thunderbird design draws on Totem Torrent Technology and on the original Tribe Tower, and Totem also lists Bison Monitor speakers, centre channels, soundbars and architectural models for building a wider system around it.

The Totem Tribe Tower is the slimmer floorstanding model on which the Thunderbird is based, using Lock-Miter cabinet joints and Torrent drivers.
