The Morgan Acoustics Ten-12 is a British four-way floorstander and the first loudspeaker from the company, whose speakers are made by hand in the United Kingdom. It made its debut at the Bristol show in early 2025.
Key specs that matter
A side-firing 12-inch lower bass driver works with a sealed 10-inch bass/mid unit, a 7-inch midrange driver and a Mundorf AMT tweeter. Rated response runs from 24 Hz to 30 kHz, the four-way crossover is a proprietary design, sensitivity is 93 dB at 1 W/1 m and nominal impedance is 4 ohm. The speaker stands 1160 mm tall, 280 mm wide and 420 mm deep. Launch price was GBP 38,800 for the basic gloss black version.
Engineering and use context
Construction follows a twin-box layout in 24 mm Baltic birch plywood with internal bracing positioned through structural analysis. The lower box carries the 12-inch woofer on a side panel, which keeps the front profile slender, and is ported underneath at the rear. The upper box is a sealed, angled truncated pyramid with non-parallel sides, and the treble section is damped with wool wadding. The AMT diaphragm sits recessed in the cabinet to bring the acoustic centre of each unit into close alignment. According to the maker, drive units are built to its own specifications to cut harmonic and intermodulation distortion and dynamic compression, with features that limit eddy currents in the motors and long linear stroke in the bass drivers. Crossovers are designed through simulations based on measurement to keep phase differences between drivers small and to give a relatively flat impedance curve. Internal wiring is British 99.9999% pure copper, in a multi-strand configuration that reduces EMI and RFI, and the binding posts are made of non-magnetic material to avoid eddy currents.
Pairing
Input is a single pair of 4 mm binding posts, so the speaker cannot be bi-wired, and short links connect the upper box to the bass box. The maker aims the design at medium to large rooms and recommends amplifiers with high damping factor and power that nearly doubles as impedance halves. Finishes include piano black, walnut, walnut burl, cherry, oak and custom gloss colours. For critical listening the maker advises removing the grilles, since their frames introduce diffraction. The cabinets receive more than 10 coats of hand-finished piano lacquer.
Alternatives
Morgan Acoustics also makes the Model 88, a 3.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker with an AMT tweeter, a dedicated midrange and two bass drivers.
