The TALOS is a fully powered floorstanding speaker from the American maker Legacy Audio, designed under chief designer Bill Duddleston and shown as a world premiere at AXPONA 2026. Legacy lists it at USD 65,000 to 75,000 per pair depending on finish, which places it below the Valor System and above the Aeris XD in the current catalogue. Each tower integrates its amplification and processing, so the system needs only a source or preamplifier.

Key specs that matter

The six-driver cabinet is powered by 3,000 W of Class D amplification from ICEpower modules. Legacy quotes a response of 16 Hz to 30 kHz within plus or minus 2 dB. The tower is roughly 135 cm tall, 43 cm wide and 56 cm deep and weighs about 113 kg. Signal enters through a single XLR input feeding the internal processor. The four standard colours are Natural Oak, Black Oak, White Satin and Black Satin, while Walnut, Rosewood and gloss white or gloss black cost extra and exotic veneers to order.

Engineering and use context

The treble comes from a convergence array of two 3 in air motion transformer tweeters behind a precision waveguide. A 3 in coaxial midrange with a titanium and polyester diaphragm covers the upper midband, and a 12 in midwoofer with a glass fibre cone and a double silicone spider handles the lower mids. Bass is produced by two 12 in ultra-linear drivers with 6.8 kg motors, loaded by two 12 in passive radiators of Legacy's patented symmetrically loaded design, each able to travel about 10 cm peak to peak. Using passive radiators instead of ports lets the long-throw woofers reach the quoted low limit without a vent opening. The drivers are divided by a five-channel internal crossover running in a Wavelet II processor, and Legacy describes the DSP as a 56-bit design, so each band receives its own amplifier channel and filtering is done in the digital domain before amplification rather than by a passive network.

Pairing

Only a line-level source with a balanced output is needed - a streamer or DAC with a volume control, or a preamplifier with XLR outputs, can drive the towers directly, and the system does away with separate power amplifiers and speaker wire. The same Wavelet II processor is also sold by Legacy as a separate unit at USD 8,000, while in the Talos it is built in.

Alternatives

The Legacy Aeris XD is a smaller powered tower from the same maker, listed at USD 30,000 with internal amplification.
