JBL's Summit Pumori is a ported three-way tower. It appeared in 2025 and sits between the stand-mount Ama and the larger Makalu, sharing its compression driver with the Ama and its mid-bass unit with the Makalu. The price is USD 29,995 per pair.

Key specs that matter

The D2815K compression driver uses two 1.5 inch annular-ring Teonex diaphragms with dual motors and fires into a Sonoglass HDI horn. The JMW200SC 8 inch mid-bass driver has an HC4 cone, an underhung neodymium motor, a 2.5 inch voice coil and an accordion-edge surround. The JW250SC 10 inch woofer combines an HC4 cone with a ferrite motor, a 2.5 inch voice coil, a cast aluminium frame and a half-roll surround. The crossover divides the signal at 285 Hz and 1,250 Hz. Sensitivity is 87 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with a minimum of 3.2 ohm at 323 Hz. JBL recommends 25 to 250 W RMS, and maximum output is 111 dB. The response runs from 30 Hz to 32 kHz at -6 dB, and from 25 Hz to 33 kHz at -10 dB. The cabinet stands 1056.5 mm tall, 393.3 mm wide and 373 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 63.9 kg.

Engineering and use context

Splitting the lower range between the mid-bass driver and the woofer lets each cone work over a narrower band. The underhung motor in the mid-bass unit keeps the voice coil inside a uniform magnetic field over its travel, while the woofer relies on a conventional ferrite motor for the range below the lower crossover point. HC4, used for both cones, is a three-layer structure of carbon fibre and pulp outer skins bonded to a foam core. In the D2815K, twin annular diaphragms driven by separate motors feed one horn, an arrangement JBL has patented. The MultiCap network is wired in series and builds each capacitor value from several smaller parts, with acoustically symmetric third and fourth order filters. Silver-plated OCC copper links the drivers to two pairs of rhodium-plated terminals. The curved cabinet walls are engineered wood with offset bracing, a single flared port opens at the rear, and carbon-fibre trim surrounds the front baffle. The speaker rests on adjustable JBL and IsoAcoustics feet. It is finished in gloss black with platinum details or in gloss ebony veneer with gold details.

Pairing

With its low nominal impedance and a further dip in the lower midrange, the Pumori calls for an amplifier built to drive low loads with power to spare. The two terminal pairs accept separate amplifiers for the woofer and upper sections.

Alternatives

The JBL Summit Makalu steps up to a 12 inch Differential Drive woofer and the 3 inch D2830K compression driver.
