The Solano 2.0 FS287.2 is the floorstanding model of ELAC's Solano 2.0 series, a three-piece line from ELAC Electroacustic of Kiel, Germany, that also contains the BS 283.2 bookshelf speaker and the CC 281.2 centre channel. The series is intended for both two-channel stereo and surround systems, and all three models share the same tweeter and woofer technology. The FS287.2 has a glossy lacquer finish in either black or white, and ELAC recommends it for amplifiers rated from 4 to 8 ohm.

ELAC builds it as a 2.5-way bass reflex design with two 150 mm AS aluminium sandwich woofers and a JET 6 folded ribbon tweeter, crossed over at 450 Hz and 2,400 Hz. Engineering and use context

The JET 6 is the latest generation of ELAC's folded ribbon tweeter and is handcrafted in Kiel. Its folded diaphragm gives extended high-frequency response. The aluminium sandwich woofers are designed to combine rigidity with internal damping, and their baskets are also aluminium, which ELAC chose for mechanical stability as well as appearance. The enclosure is built from solid MDF in a rectangular form whose front panel curves gently and whose edges are generously rounded, which keeps the tower visually compact. Magnetically held metal grilles are sold as an option and follow the curved design of the series. Compared with its siblings, the floorstander has the widest recommended amplifier range - the BS 283.2 is rated for 40 to 200 W and the CC 281.2 for 40 to 250 W.

The low impedance minimum favours a solid-state amplifier with stable low-impedance output rather than a low-powered valve unit. In a surround system the CC 281.2 centre uses the same JET 6 tweeter and a pair of AS woofers, weighing 10.5 kg, while the BS 283.2 at 8.0 kg can work as a matching surround. The bookshelf model uses two-way operation with a single AS woofer, 85 dB sensitivity and a 3.2 ohm minimum, so it is a slightly harder load than the tower, while the centre reaches 87.5 dB and extends down to 34 Hz.
