The SCM150ASLT is a three-way active tower in the Tower Series from ATC, the British maker whose factory stands at Aston Down, Gloucestershire. The Tower Series runs from the SCM20ASLT up to the SCM300ASLT, and this model occupies the slot between the SCM100ASLT and SCM200ASLT. A passive twin is sold alongside it, and ATC also built a limited edition of just 22 pairs, the SCM150ASLT LE, which moved the electronics into a separate six-channel P6 amplifier.

Key specs that matter

Three ATC drivers share the work - a 25 mm neodymium tweeter, the SM75-150S soft dome midrange of 75 mm and the latest 375 mm SL-specification bass unit. Hand-offs between them fall at 380 Hz and 3.5 kHz. ATC quotes amplitude linearity of plus or minus 2 dB from 60 Hz to 17 kHz and a plus or minus 6 dB window reaching from 25 Hz to 22 kHz, with pairs matched to within 0.5 dB. Horizontal dispersion is plus or minus 80 degrees and vertical plus or minus 10 degrees, and the maximum level is 117 dB. The class AB tri-amp pack totals 350 W, split as 200 W for the bass unit, 100 W for the midrange and 50 W for the tweeter. The cabinet stands 1104 mm high, 495 mm wide and 635 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 77 kg.

Engineering and use context

Because every filter is active, the crossover works on line-level signals before amplification, and each driver sits behind its own amplifier channel. ATC fits overload protection in the same pack. The bass driver pairs the SL cone with a massive ATC motor assembly, while the soft dome midrange is a part the company designs and builds itself. The Classic Series SCM150ASL uses the same bass unit and amplifier split in an 884 mm cabinet that rests on supplied stands. Each pair of towers ships with two fabric-wrapped grilles, eight M8 stand spikes with nuts and two IEC mains leads, and ATC covers the model with a 6-year warranty. Paint options are satin black and satin white, the regular veneers cover cherry, walnut, oak and black ash, and a surcharge applies to rosewood, several burr veneers, pippy oak, crown cut walnut and high gloss lacquer.

Pairing

The signal arrives through female XLR sockets, so the towers need a preamplifier, DAC or streamer with balanced line outputs. ATC lists its SCA2 preamplifier and its CDA2 disc player, which combines a preamp and DAC, as partner units, and no external power amplifier is needed.
