The Qlang M4s is a fully active two-way floorstanding loudspeaker and the first product of Seefluth Audio, a small company run by Michael W. R. Seefluth in Bühl-Neusatz in Baden, Germany. Qlang is the loudspeaker brand Seefluth created for active designs, and each pair is built by hand in small runs in his workshop and sold directly. The launch Founders Edition is limited to 20 pairs, priced at EUR 9,900 for the first five, EUR 10,900 for the next ten and EUR 11,900 for the last five, and the lead time is about ten weeks after the order. Seefluth covers the speakers with a warranty of five years.
Key specs that matter
The maker states a frequency response of 35 Hz to 20 kHz at minus 3 dB and a built-in amplifier of 2 x 120 W. The cabinet measures 97 x 32 x 12 cm, and with its feet the speaker takes up 103 x 40 x 20 cm. Each speaker weighs 25 kg. The tweeter is a Morel silk dome from that maker's top series, supplied in matched pairs, and the mid/bass driver is an 18 cm SEAS unit with a coated paper cone designed for a gentle roll-off. A passive radiator is added to the sealed cabinet.
Engineering and use context
A cabinet this shallow is unusual for a floorstander, and Seefluth uses a passive radiator in the closed box to extend the bass response from that small internal volume. The enclosure is made of solid beech, braced inside by a closely spaced matrix to keep panel resonance down, and finished with natural linseed oil instead of lacquer. The two amplifier channels in each speaker are Hypex Class D modules, and the crossover is done in DSP with programmable FIR filters, which lets the maker set the response of each speaker without passive parts between amplifier and drivers. The feet use an 8 mm aluminium base plate with adjustable height and integrated steel balls as contact points, meant to limit the transfer of vibration into the floor. The hardware is hand-finished aluminium. The Founders Edition package includes two Eupen Ferrit power cables of 2.5 m and two Sommer Cable Albedo audio cables of 3 m, and Seefluth personally delivers these first pairs within 800 km of the workshop.
Pairing
Because the amplifiers and crossover are inside the speaker, the M4s needs only a line-level source with volume control, such as a streamer with a variable output or a preamplifier, plus a mains socket at each speaker.
Alternatives
Seefluth Audio has no other loudspeaker model besides the Qlang M4s.
