The Polaris 5 is a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker from Diora Acoustics, the Polish maker from Świdnica, and the company calls it the flagship of the Polaris series, which also includes the compact Polaris 1 nearfield monitor and the two-way Polaris 3. The series made its debut in Bristol in February 2025 and uses European components, with drivers, crossovers and cables selected for repeatability and durability. The UK price is GBP 2,500 per pair.

Key specs that matter

A 25.5 mm fabric dome tweeter in a waveguide works with a 165 mm cellulose-cone woofer with a 32 mm voice coil, and four passive radiators of 203 mm each support the bass. Frequency response is 36 Hz to 18 kHz at -3 dB and 33 Hz to 20 kHz at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 91 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and impedance is 4 ohm nominal with a 3 ohm minimum. Power handling is 160 W to the AES standard. Each speaker measures 1125 mm high, 220 mm wide and 342 mm deep and weighs 23 kg.

Engineering and use context

Passive radiators are cones with no magnet or voice coil, driven only by pressure changes in the box, and here four of them replace a reflex port, extending the bass without port noise. With four radiators, the total moving area is much larger than that of the woofer alone, which lets the radiators move less for the same output. Its waveguide shapes how the tweeter spreads sound and lifts its output in the lower part of its range, which helps it match the woofer at the crossover. In a 2.5-way layout the woofer and the bass section overlap in the low range while only the woofer continues up to the tweeter. Cellulose keeps the woofer cone light and well damped, and the large voice coil handles the power rating. The front is always finished in black fine-structured lacquer, which resists scratches, while the cabinet comes in black or white piano gloss, black or white matt, American walnut veneer or oak veneer, both open-pore. The slender baffle suits a cabinet of this height, and the four radiators need a cabinet of this size to fit. Diora also makes the Perun and Chors series.

Pairing

The high sensitivity means moderate amplifier power reaches high levels, yet with the low impedance minimum the amplifier must be comfortable with low loads. A room of about 20 m2 or larger suits the bass extension.
