The Persona 9H is the hybrid tower of the Persona Series from Paradigm. It is a hybrid, with an external amplifier driving the beryllium tweeter and midrange while built-in amplification powers the bass section. The launch price was USD 35,000 per pair, and custom colours are offered in addition to the standard finishes. Development and assembly happen at Paradigm's factory in Mississauga, near Toronto.

Key specs that matter

Six drivers are arranged as a 3.5-way floorstander with an acoustic suspension active bass section. At the top, a 1 inch beryllium dome with ferro-fluid damping handles treble, while the 7 inch Truextent beryllium mid driver sits on a neodymium Inverse Differential Drive motor with a 38 mm high-temperature voice coil. Four long-throw X-PAL bass units of 8.5 inch diameter with Differential Drive motors and 38 mm dual voice coils cover the bass. Filters are third order at 2.4 kHz and 400 Hz, with a second-order slope at 200 Hz for the rear woofers. Response is 19 Hz to 45 kHz within 2 dB on axis, 19 Hz to 20 kHz at 30 degrees off axis, and down to 15 Hz under DIN measurement. Rated sensitivity is 96 dB in room and 93 dB anechoic. Each speaker measures 132 cm high, 30 cm wide and 52 cm deep and weighs 86 kg.

Engineering and use context

Two DSP-controlled 700 W amplifiers are fitted to each speaker, one per woofer pair, for 1,400 W of bass power per side. The woofers are split between the front and rear of the cabinet and work in opposing pairs, an arrangement intended to cancel cabinet vibration. The 99.9 percent pure beryllium foil used for the upper drivers is chosen because it offers far higher stiffness at lower mass than competing cone and dome materials. A Perforated Phase-Aligning lens covers the tweeter, Active Ridge Technology surrounds hold the bass cones, and Shock-Mount isolation decouples the midrange and bass drivers from the non-resonant cabinet. Spikes use 0.75 inch-16 threads. Standard paint options are Vanta Black or Harmony White in high gloss and Aria Blue or Sonic Silver in metallic gloss.

Pairing

Paradigm lists a 15 to 500 W amplifier range and a 400 W maximum input, with an impedance Paradigm calls 8 ohm compatible. Because the woofer amplifiers are internal, a power outlet is required near each speaker.

Alternatives

The Persona 7F is the passive 3-way tower of the same series, sharing the cabinet dimensions with two woofers instead of four.
