The ORFEO JUBILE is a floorstanding speaker from JMR Electroacoustique, the French maker led by designer Jean-Marie Reynaud, and is part of the Jubile series. JMR presents it as a full redesign rather than an update of the earlier Orfeo Supreme V2, tuned lower than its predecessors and given a larger rounded fillet on the rear of the cabinet. The list price is EUR 11,500 per pair in stained cherry anigre veneer, Black Satin, Pearly White or Pearly Anthracite Grey.

Key specs that matter

The ORFEO JUBILE combines a pleated-diaphragm tweeter with a pair of 180 mm woofer-midrange units in a 2.5-way layout. The quoted response is 32 Hz to 25 kHz, reaching 30 Hz at minus 6 dB. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a minimum of 3.8 ohm, and sensitivity is 91 dB per watt at 1 m with a 2.83 V input. JMR asks for 90 to 300 W of amplification and lists a peak handling of 400 W. The cabinet stands 116 cm high, 23.5 cm wide and 33 cm deep and weighs 40 kg.

Engineering and use context

The tweeter is an aerostriction type with a pleated 25 x 60 mm diaphragm coated in aluminium film. It radiates as a dipole and is backed by a small sealed chamber, mounted in a separate block of solid wood that is decoupled with a bitumen seal. The woofer-midrange units were developed with a German OEM partner and use a seven-layer cone of carbon fibre and PEEK with plasma treatment, a 37 mm coil on a ventilated fibreglass former, twin 100 mm ferrite magnets with a copper flux ring, an aluminium basket and NBR rubber surrounds. The crossover uses slopes of 12, 12 and 6 dB per octave and is split into two isolated cells to avoid intermodulation. It has no circuit board - parts are soldered by hand with silver solder, capacitors have silver armatures with HP1132 leads, chokes are pure copper wound on wooden formers and set in wax, resistors are shielded, and pairs are matched to 1 percent. Bass loading is a triangular quarter-wave line ending in a front vent at the foot. Absorption inside is kept low, a honeycomb foam element sits behind the drivers, and large panels are lined with bitumen and viscoelastic compound. The base is isolated with viscoelastic compound and carries adjustable spikes with counter-spikes. JMR states low directivity, so precise toe-in is not needed, and asks for at least 80 cm from side and rear walls with about 3 m between speakers as a starting point.

Pairing

The high efficiency lets moderate power go far, but the low impedance minimum and the recommended power floor favour a transistor amplifier that is stable into low loads.

The JMR ABSCISSE JUBILE is the smaller Jubile tower, using two 14 cm drivers in a 115 cm cabinet of 30 kg with 89 dB sensitivity.
