The Opera Grandezza is the top diamond version of the Opera floorstanding loudspeaker from AudiaZ, a German maker whose story began in 1995, when Dr. Helmuth Weber and Günter Hartl began building loudspeakers together. Around the turn of the millennium they founded Hartl & Weber Audio-Design GbR to produce models in series under the AudiaZ name. The maker describes the Grandezza as equivalent to the Opera Diamond, with a diamond midrange driver from Accuton added.

Key specs that matter

Both the tweeter and the midrange use pure diamond diaphragms from Accuton. The tweeter carries a 30 mm diamond dome, while the midrange unit is the BD90 with a 90 mm membrane of pure industrial diamond. AudiaZ states it was the first German loudspeaker manufacturer to fit this driver. The Opera platform itself uses larger bass drivers and larger midrange units from the Accuton Cell line than the smaller Cadenza models and is aimed at medium to large rooms.

Engineering and use context

The crossover is built from mica and film capacitors supplied by Duelund, Intertechnik, Mundorf and BMC. The capacitor ahead of the tweeter is made of solid pure silver foil with pure silver connections, and the cables feeding the tweeter section use a silver-gold solid conductor. Everywhere else, from the binding posts to the crossover and on to each driver, the internal wiring is AudiaZ Planar cable, a solid pure silver conductor with an extruded Teflon dielectric from GORE, made to the brand's own specification. The enclosure has a narrow front wall, sloping side walls for stiffness and a damped rear wall that absorbs vibration energy, with multiple bracing and several damping materials inside. These machined parts are assembled by hand and then veneered or painted. Each pair receives veneer sheets from the same tree so that grain and colour mirror each other, and pearl gloss black, pearl gloss white or golden ebony high gloss paint are offered on request. The styling follows Bauhaus principles, a straight design language without decoration that the brand has used since 1999.
