The Model 7 is the tallest speaker in the Resoné series from Final, the Dutch electrostatic specialist that went quiet after a Philips takeover in 2004 and was relaunched in 2015 by its founders with a fully redesigned catalogue. The company lists it as built for larger rooms, above the Model 3 and Model 5, and below the Prestige series floorstanders, which include the Model 12, Model 15 and Model 35. It is sold either as a bare electrostatic panel or as a hybrid with a passive woofer in the base, and the US price for the panel-only pair was USD 4,500 at launch.

Key specs that matter

With the woofer fitted, response extends from 38 Hz to 23,000 Hz within 3 dB, and the panel-only version is rated from 90 Hz. Sensitivity is 88 dB measured with 2.83 volts at 1 m. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm and the curve drops to 3 ohm at 20 kHz. Final specifies 20 to 200 W per channel. The panel measures 153 cm in height and 28.8 cm in width, the footplate is 31.7 by 29.7 cm, and the hybrid weighs 22 kg each. Horizontal dispersion is 20 degrees. The current Model 7+ data gives 42 Hz to 23,000 Hz, 6 ohm, 20 kg and a suggested 50 to 150 W.

Engineering and use context

A super linear electrostatic transducer carries the upper range, and in the hybrid a 10 inch long stroke woofer with a metal cone takes over the low end. Early production used a custom wound C core step-up transformer, polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors. The Model 7+ moves to a UI48 high resolution transformer, film capacitors of audio grade and coils wound for minimal loss, with gold plated terminals that accept banana plugs and spades. It can stand on the floor or hang on a wall bracket, and the standard finishes are aluminium and black matte, with frame and panel colours combinable to order. An active edition adds two 125 W amplifier channels per speaker and digital and analogue inputs including AES, optical, S/PDIF, RCA and XLR, powered from 100 to 240 V mains. Final builds each pair by hand in the Netherlands with a lead time of four to six weeks, and the full catalogue covers 14 models, 12 of them stereo floorstanders.

Pairing

The low treble impedance favours a transistor power amplifier able to supply current into low loads rather than a low-powered tube design, and the brand confirms matching with 4, 5 or 8 ohm output taps.

Alternatives

The Final Model 5 is the shorter Resoné floorstander at 137 cm.
