The Mission LX-6 MKII sits in the LX MKII Series as its three-way tower, the update of the LX line that the British company first introduced in 2016. With the MKII generation the range grew from six to nine models, gaining an extra standmount, another centre model and a surround design. The line also includes the LX-10SUB MKII subwoofer.
Key specs that matter
Inside a reflex-loaded enclosure are four drivers - two 165 mm composite fibre bass units, a 130 mm composite fibre midrange and a 25 mm microfibre dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet. Crossover points are 400 Hz and 3.3 kHz. The rated response is 35 Hz to 20 kHz within 3 dB, extending to 30 Hz at the 6 dB point. Sensitivity is 91 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and the nominal impedance of 8 ohm falls to a minimum of 3.0 ohm. Peak output is quoted at 107 dB. Mission lists internal volumes of 3.2 litres and 72.5 litres, the smaller figure being the separate midrange chamber. The speaker stands 1020 mm tall on its plinth, is 226 mm wide and 333 mm deep including terminals, and weighs 21.9 kg. It comes in Lux Black, Lux White or Walnut Pearl.
Engineering and use context
Mission keeps its Inverted Driver Geometry here, placing the midrange above the tweeter and both bass units below, which sets the path lengths from each driver to the listener. This layout differs from the D'Appolito arrangement of the smaller floorstanders in the range. The DiaDrive midrange and bass units use a curvilinear diaphragm in place of a cone and dust cap, made from a dual-layer fibre that is stiff for its mass and self-damping, and driven by ferrite magnets. Driver surrounds carry comb-tooth serrations to scatter reflections, and the tweeter has added indentations to smooth its response. Mission uses a fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley filter network with 24 dB per octave acoustic slopes. Cabinet bracing was worked out with computer modelling in 3D, finite element analysis and laser interferometry measurement, while additional damping fibre is placed inside the rear-ported enclosure.
Pairing
Mission recommends 30 to 200 W of amplifier power. With its high sensitivity, lower-powered amplifiers are workable, though the low impedance minimum calls for one that is stable into low loads. For a surround system the LX MKII range offers the LX-C1 and LX-C2 centres, the LX-3D surround model and the LX-10SUB MKII.
Alternatives
The Mission LX-5 MKII is the two-way floorstander below it in the same range, with two bass drivers of the same size, a microfibre tweeter, 90 dB sensitivity and a 30 to 150 W amplifier recommendation.
