The LM2 is a big 3-way tower from the Classic Collection of Lorenzo Audio Labs, an artisan speaker maker based in Granada, Spain. It combines a very big paper cone bass driver with a compression driver for the midrange, a design approach aimed at high efficiency, and every pair is hand-built with a cabinet, crossover and hardware made to the brand's own specification.

Key specs that matter

Its drivers are a 16-inch woofer, a 2-inch compression driver covering the midrange and upper midrange, and a tweeter that also acts as a supertweeter. The paper cone woofers use alnico magnets, and the compression drivers have beryllium diaphragms. A phase-optimised crossover joins the three ways. Lorenzo rates the LM2 at 95 dB sensitivity with an 8 ohm nominal impedance and a frequency response from 20 Hz to 35 kHz, and recommends amplifiers from 20 to 500 watts. Each cabinet is 140 cm high, 55.5 cm wide and 62.5 cm deep and weighs 140 kg.

Engineering and use context

Lorenzo builds the enclosure from a massive 62 mm wall of phenolic laminated wood joined with an elastomer in a damped sandwich construction, and the panels are cut on 5-axis CNC machinery. Bass is reflex-loaded through twin ports that are hand-turned from a special tonewood. The passive crossover is hand-welded without printed circuit boards and draws on components from Duelund, Jupiter, Mundorf and Pathaudio, while high-purity copper wire is used in the internal runs. Custom Panzerholz parts replace metal fasteners at critical points, and the speaker stands on steel feet designed in-house with Panzerholz isolation pieces between them and the cabinet. The eight standard veneers include Macassar Ebony, Ziricote, Pau Ferro and White Ebony, and custom veneers are offered on request. At this mass, moving and placing the cabinets is a job for two or more people, and the floor must be able to carry the load.

Pairing

The high efficiency means modest valve amplifiers, for example single-ended types of a few tens of watts, can drive the LM2 near the bottom of its recommended range, while the nominal impedance keeps the load benign. Larger solid-state amplifiers remain an option at the upper end, so the choice is open across both technologies.
