The Hypersail is a 2.2 metre tall electrostatic floorstanding speaker from Popori Acoustics, the Hungarian company of Otto Popori, who spent close to three decades in audio and began by repairing electrostatic panels before designing his own. The company announced the model on 31 March 2025 ahead of its first public appearance in Dallas at Southwest Audio Fest 2025, where it was quoted at around USD 99,000 per pair.

Key specs that matter

It is a wide-range two-way design in which a large electrostatic panel works with a planar ribbon transducer for the high frequencies. The foil covers 0.7 m2 per speaker. Popori quotes a range of 28 Hz to 22,000 Hz, a sensitivity of 90 dB, a maximum sound pressure level of 105 dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.1%. Impedance falls to a minimum of 3.5 ohm. Each speaker is 2200 mm high, 600 mm wide and 380 mm deep and weighs 68 kg.

Engineering and use context

The bass comes from the electrostatic panel itself, as no subwoofer is part of the product. At the Dallas debut the system ran full range on the first day, and optional REL subwoofers were added to the room on the second day as a demonstration choice, not as part of the speaker. Popori credits its own methods of stretching the membrane and its stator construction for the low distortion figures and the extended response of its panels. In this layout the electrostatic sheet covers bass and midrange and leaves only the top octaves to the ribbon. The brand now trades as Prodigio Audio, which builds each speaker by hand in small numbers, cuts frame parts on CNC machines, and measures and listens to every unit before it leaves the workshop. Custom colours can be ordered for the frame. The Vitorla shares the Hypersail's size, foil area and weight. It is a curved-panel model with built-in LED lighting that was first shown in Warsaw in 2025 and is rated at 92 dB and 30 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

Pairing

With impedance dipping low, the partnering amplifier should hold its output into low loads, and the moderate sensitivity means very high power is not required to reach normal levels. At its Dallas debut the Hypersail played with VAC electronics. Subwoofers can extend output below the panel's limit, as at the show, though the speaker is sold without them.

Alternatives

The Popori XR1 is the six-panel electrostatic floorstander of the range, with 1.3 m2 of foil, 96 dB sensitivity, response from 24 Hz and 132 kg per speaker.
