The GrandHorn Gamma is a passive three-way horn loudspeaker from ThivanLabs, a Vietnamese hi-fi maker based in Ho Chi Minh City. It is the second model in the GrandHorn series, taking its design ideas from the GrandHorn Alpha in a more compact floorstanding cabinet. The Gamma was first shown at High End Vienna 2026, held from 4 to 7 June at the Austria Center Vienna in room 3.50 on level 3. The current ThivanLabs speaker catalogue also includes the Grand Open Diamond-X and Ruby-X open-baffle models, the Eros 9X, 7X and 5X, and the Spider 3.

Key specs that matter

A 12-inch paper cone woofer handles the bass, a 6.5-inch paper cone unit works in the middle band, and a horn-loaded 1-inch compression driver reproduces the highs. The crossover points are 350 Hz and 3,000 Hz. Quoted frequency response is 28 Hz to 22 kHz, sensitivity is 92 dB and nominal impedance is 8 ohm. Each cabinet is 36 cm wide, 45 cm deep and 135 cm high and weighs 62 kg, so a pair comes to 124 kg. ThivanLabs suggests sitting more than 2.5 m from the speakers.

Engineering and use context

The designers gave priority to first-order filters in the crossover network. The cabinet is highly rigid and structurally reinforced to suppress parasitic resonance within the enclosure. The high-frequency assembly sits in a precision-adjustable mounting that can be tilted vertically, allowing the acoustic axis and dispersion of the top section to be fine-tuned after installation. ThivanLabs says the cabinet structure, driver integration, crossover topology, internal layout and proportions were optimised together as one system rather than picked as separate parts. Compared with the Alpha, the Gamma uses a smaller woofer and a larger midrange, and its crossover points are placed 50 Hz higher and 500 Hz lower.

Pairing

ThivanLabs lists a minimum amplifier power of more than 15 W, and combined with the easy nominal load this places low-power valve amplifiers within reach alongside transistor models. ThivanLabs builds its own electronics, including the Ultimate 300 preamplifier that debuted at the same Vienna show, and its sister brand Mavis Lab, which exhibited there too, developed a dedicated woofer amplifier for the 2025 version of the Alpha.

Alternatives

The GrandHorn Alpha is the larger ThivanLabs horn tower, with a 15-inch woofer, a 4-inch midrange, 97 dB sensitivity and a 116 kg two-module cabinet.
