The GR20 from Alcons Audio is a compact, high-output two-way point-source loudspeaker for professional use, intended for portable systems as well as permanent installations. The Dutch pro-ribbon specialist positions it between its V-series point-source cabinets and its L- and R-series array systems, and targets speech-critical venues, live sound and multichannel spatial audio. The first production deployment was at Amsterdam Dance Event 2025 in a 7.1.6 Dolby Atmos layout, and the system was presented at ISE 2026.
Key specs that matter
A 6-inch RBN602rs pro-ribbon driver covers the upper range, and two custom 10-inch neodymium mid-bass woofers with Active Coil technology handle the lower band. Rated frequency response is 54 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB, reaching 45 Hz at plus or minus 10 dB. Sensitivity is 101 dB measured from 200 Hz to 10 kHz, and nominal impedance is 8 ohm. The ribbon driver accepts 1,250 W peak for 200 ms, giving a 1 to 15 RMS-to-peak ratio. Maximum SPL is listed at 130 dB with a Sentinel3 amplifier and 135 dB with a Sentinel10. The cabinet is 640 mm high, 312 mm wide and 352 mm deep, weighs about 26 kg and carries a 6-year limited warranty.
Engineering and use context
The pro-ribbon transducer works without a compression chamber, and Alcons states up to 90% less distortion than conventional mid and high frequency drivers, with a linear response at any level. Its fast impulse response and extended top-end output give 3 to 6 dB more gain before feedback than traditional point-source systems, which matters when microphones share the stage with the loudspeakers. The waveguide has patented constant directivity of 80 degrees horizontal by 50 degrees vertical and can be rotated, so the pattern becomes 50 by 80 degrees when the cabinet is laid on its side. The layout is vertically symmetrical in a clamshell arrangement, and the crossover is passive.
Pairing
The GR20 is meant to run from an Alcons ALC amplified loudspeaker controller, which accepts 192 kHz AES3 digital inputs and applies factory presets with VHIR processing for flat phase response. The Sentinel3 is the minimum recommended amplifier and the Sentinel10 is specified for higher output. Two Speakon NL4 sockets act as input and link, so a second cabinet can be fed from the first.
Alternatives
The Alcons Audio VR12 is another two-way pro-ribbon point-source loudspeaker from the brand, built around a single 12-inch mid-bass driver.
