The G7 Foxtrot is the tallest and heaviest of the three passive models in the Series 7 range from Genesis Advanced Technologies, the Washington State company whose entry-level line borrows its tweeter and crossover parts from the Prime+ reference model. It sits above the Minuet and Tango and shares its cabinet size with the Samba, which swaps the passive bass for a servo-driven woofer. The G7 name goes back to a 2005 bookshelf series, and the current range was shown in public at Capital Audiofest in November 2023. A 2024 US listing put the Foxtrot at USD 16,999 per pair.

Key specs that matter

Each cabinet holds five drivers - a 1-inch ring-radiator tweeter on the front, an identical one firing backwards, a single 5.5-inch titanium cone mid/woofer and two 8-inch ribbed aluminium woofers in isobaric loading. Genesis gives a lower limit of C1 (32.7 Hz), 88 dB at 1 W and 1 m, and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. A Soft/Bright control gives plus or minus 4.5 dB for the front tweeter. Each speaker stands 1350 mm tall, 356 mm wide and 410 mm deep, tips the scales at 39 kg and ships in a double carton of 43 kg. The standard finish is natural bamboo rubbed by hand.

Engineering and use context

In the isobaric layout the two woofers work in tandem, with one hidden inside the box, which roughly halves the enclosure volume needed for a given low-frequency cut-off. Genesis says it picked this route to avoid the cost of a servo-controlled bass amplifier while keeping deep extension in a family-sized sealed cabinet. The enclosure is a bamboo and MDF composite, developed as a cheaper substitute for the carbon-fibre constrained-layer sandwich used in the reference speakers, and it is braced asymmetrically so that panel and internal standing waves fall away from frequencies that recordings actually contain - an approach learned on the Genesis Maestro. Inductors are custom-wound with OFC copper, and many of the custom capacitors are polypropylene film and tin foil types. The grille forms part of the crossover design and is meant to stay on, and each pair is run in at the factory before shipping.

Pairing

Genesis describes the Foxtrot as easy to drive despite its isobaric bass, and the manual asks for the cables to go directly from the speaker-level outputs of the power amplifier to the 5-way Genesis binding posts.

Alternatives

The G7 Samba keeps the same cabinet but replaces the isobaric pair with one servo-driven 8-inch woofer run by a built-in 250 W Class D amplifier, quoting extension to A0 (27.5 Hz).
