The FR-2 is a passive floorstanding loudspeaker from Lyngdorf Audio, designed to stand directly against a wall rather than out in the room. The company announced it on 25 October 2024, showed it first to the public in Warsaw that autumn and started production in November 2024 in Skive, Denmark. FR stands for Full Range, and the FR-2 is the second model of that family after the FR-1, with a stronger tweeter and two woofers that both receive the amplifier signal. The price is EUR 2,350 or USD 2,999 per speaker.

Key specs that matter

The layout has two ways in a vented box. A 28 mm fabric soft dome tweeter handles the top, and two 180 mm (6.5 inch) woofers with aluminium cones, 35 mm voice coils, ventilated magnets and vented die-cast aluminium baskets work in parallel below the 2.2 kHz crossover. Response is 45 Hz to 20,000 Hz at -3 dB. Sensitivity is 92 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, nominal impedance is 4 ohm with a minimum of 3.7 ohm, and the IEC power handling rating is 250 W. Maximum output reaches 117 dB peak at 1 m. Each cabinet measures 32.5 x 102.4 x 16 cm including the required feet and weighs 18 kg.

Engineering and use context

The whole concept follows from the placement. Lyngdorf tuned the FR-2 for best performance close to a wall, and the very shallow cabinet keeps the woofers near that boundary so the room reinforces the low range instead of fighting it. The reflex port is hidden and fires downward, tuned to 40 Hz, so nothing opens on the front or rear panel. The enclosure is MDF with internal bracing, and Lyngdorf builds and lacquers the housings at its own facility in Denmark. The satin-matte cabinet comes in white, black or mocha with a matching or contrasting front, giving combinations such as white with black or black with mocha. Two optional exchangeable fabric covers in Midnight Gray or Gray come from the Danish textile maker Gabriel. The speaker can sit on stabiliser feet, on spike feet secured with a wall strap, or hang on an optional wall bracket, and gold-plated terminals take the cables.

Pairing

Its low nominal impedance asks for an amplifier comfortable with such loads, and the sensitive drivers need little power for normal listening levels. Because the speaker is meant to live against the wall, it also fits rooms where free-standing towers pulled well into the space would block walkways or furniture, and the optional bracket frees the floor entirely.

Apart from the FR-2, Lyngdorf lists no floorstanding speaker in its range, so the brand has no same-category alternative to name.
