The Elegan 2 is the floorstanding model of the Elegan series from QUAD, developed under the direction of Peter Comeau, the brand's Director of Acoustic Design. QUAD presents the Elegan pair as spiritual successors to its earlier L Series models, positioned below the Revela and ESL ranges. Availability began on 24 July 2026 at GBP 1,499, EUR 1,899, USD 1,995 or AUD 3,499 per pair.

Key specs that matter

QUAD equips this three-way tower with two 165 mm woven Kevlar bass drivers, a 125 mm woven Kevlar midrange cone and a 25 mm fabric dome tweeter set in a profiled waveguide. Sensitivity is 90 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Response is 44 Hz to 24 kHz within 3 dB, with bass extension reaching 32 Hz at -6 dB, and peak output is quoted as 106 dB. QUAD gives an 8 ohm nominal impedance, but the twin bass units take the minimum down to 3.0 ohm. Recommended amplifier power runs from 30 to 200 W.

Engineering and use context

QUAD developed a dedicated crossover network for each Elegan model. In the Elegan 2 the Linkwitz-Riley network hands over at 480 Hz and again at 2.7 kHz, a topology chosen for phase coherence between the drivers. Inside, the cabinet is split into two chambers, a sealed 14.5 litre enclosure isolating the midrange and a 31 litre volume for the bass section. The panels are high-density material with internal bracing and damping, and the bass section vents through the rear-facing Airflow port system. Both Elegan models share this tweeter, so the smaller Elegan 1 standmount uses an identical treble unit, and QUAD states that it gives low distortion and smooth dispersion across its range. The larger driver count is what lets this tower reach deeper than its compact sibling, and QUAD aims it at medium to larger rooms. On its plinth the speaker stands 942 mm tall and 220 mm wide, with a depth of 340 mm plus 33 mm for terminals and grille. Net weight is 28.4 kg per speaker. Buyers choose deep matt black, or a walnut veneer cabinet with a matt black front baffle.

Pairing

Because the impedance falls well below nominal, choose an amplifier with a strong supply able to keep delivering current into low loads, even though the sensitivity is high. Peter Comeau suggests the QUAD 303 power amplifier for this speaker. Because the port vents backward, the towers need breathing room from the boundary behind them.

The QUAD Revela 2 sits in the costlier Revela range as a three-way tower, pairing twin 6.5 inch woofers and a 6 inch midrange with a ribbon tweeter.
