The Dexter Trio is a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker from Marten of Sweden, part of the four-model Dexter series in which every model shares the same custom pure diamond tweeter designed by Marten. The Trio is the three-driver member of that family. It pairs that tweeter with two ceramic mid/bass cones and adds a bass loading system that Marten developed specifically for the Dexter range.
Key specs that matter
Marten fits one 1 inch diamond dome above two 7.5 inch ceramic mid/bass units, and a multi-diverse crossover hands over between them at 2,000 Hz. Marten quotes a response of 25 Hz to 45,000 Hz within plus or minus 2 dB, a sensitivity of 91 dB at 2.83 V, a nominal impedance of 6 ohm with a minimum of 3.6 ohm, and a power rating of 300 W. Each cabinet stands 105.3 cm tall and weighs 45 kg. Buyers can choose True Grain Oak with a natural texture veneer, Matte Walnut, or high-gloss lacquered Piano Walnut and Piano Black.
Engineering and use context
Marten builds the enclosure with its M-Core three-layer method, and the front is faced with a carbon fibre laminate plate. According to Marten, the stiffness and low mass of the ceramic cones keep them pistonic across their working band. Low frequencies are handled by the Loaded Reflex Line, which combines reflex and transmission line principles through a shaped internal channel that ends in a wide, downward-firing slotted port. Marten states that this lowers air velocity in the port and extends bass depth compared with a conventional ported design. The speaker rests on Marten Isolators, co-developed with IsoAcoustics for floor decoupling. Internal wiring is Jorma Duality, a handmade Swedish copper cable, and the connection panel carries a single pair of rhodium-plated pure copper terminals for single-wire hookup. An optional Statement Edition upgrades the build with Jorma Statement internal wiring and higher-grade crossover components.
Pairing
An amplifier driving the Dexter Trio has to cope with an impedance minimum that dips under 4 ohm, though the fairly high sensitivity keeps power demands moderate. The single terminal pair means one run of speaker cable per side, so bi-wiring and passive bi-amping are not options on this model.
Alternatives
The Marten Dexter Quartet is a bigger floorstanding sibling within the Dexter series, sharing the diamond tweeter and Loaded Reflex Line bass system.
