The Debut 2.0 F6.2 is a three-way tower speaker from ELAC, and ELAC describes it as the top model of the Debut 2.0 series designed by Andrew Jones. The series was redesigned from the ground up relative to the first Debut line. The current Debut 2.0 range also includes the F5.2 tower, the B5.2 and B6.2 bookshelf models, the C5.2 and C6.2 centres, the A4.2 Atmos module, an on-wall model, the S10.2 subwoofer and in-wall and in-ceiling versions.

Key specs that matter

A 1-inch cloth dome tweeter works with three 6.5-inch woven aramid-fibre cones, each driven by an oversized magnet with a vented pole piece. The crossover frequencies are 90 Hz and 2,200 Hz. ELAC quotes a frequency response of 39 Hz to 35 kHz, a nominal impedance of 6 ohm and sensitivity of 87 dB at 2.83 V/1m. Maximum power input is 140 W. The cabinet is 195 mm wide, 1,097 mm high and 268 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 19.9 kg. The bass reflex enclosure uses three dual-flared ports, and connection is through 5-way metal binding posts.

Engineering and use context

The silk dome tweeter has a wide-roll surround and sits in a wide-dispersion waveguide, which ELAC says improves directivity control and removes the diffraction modes that a plain box front would otherwise create. For the aramid woofers, the cone shape was revised to gain stiffness and damping over polypropylene or paper, and ELAC states that this extra strength gave the designers more freedom to reach a smoother and more extended low-frequency response. Compared with the first-generation Debut models, the cabinets are larger, built from CARB2 rated MDF and fitted with purpose-designed internal bracing that adds rigidity and reduces panel vibration, following the principle that only the drivers themselves should move. The finish is black ash vinyl.

ELAC describes every Debut 2.0 model as easy to drive and suitable for virtually all AV receivers and amplifiers, and the moderate nominal impedance keeps the load easy for receiver-class output stages. The maker positions the F6.2 both as the base of a two-channel system and as the core of a multichannel setup, listing the C6.2 centre, the A4.2 Atmos module and the S10.2 subwoofer from the same range as companions. An app-enabled ELAC subwoofer can be added below it for a full-range system.
