The Concentro 2.0 S507.2 is the updated version of the Concentro S 507, a floorstander that brings the concentric driver work of the larger ELAC Concentro models into a simpler and more compact cabinet. ELAC states that the speaker is handcrafted in Kiel, Germany. It combines the curved design language of the Concentro with the cleaner lines of the Vela series, and in the United States a single speaker lists at USD 7,699. Walnut, gloss black and gloss white finishes are shown by ELAC.
Key specs that matter
Seven drivers form a four-way bass reflex system. Four 150 mm woofers with AS cones handle the bass, a 180 mm AS-XR cone covers the lower midrange, and a 50/130 mm aluminium cone for the upper midrange surrounds a JET 5c folded ribbon tweeter. The crossover hands over at 120 Hz, 400 Hz and 2,600 Hz. Frequency range is 24 Hz to 50,000 Hz, and sensitivity is 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal power handling is 240 W, with 300 W peak. Measured with spikes and washers, the cabinet is 1,220 mm tall, 270 mm wide and 380 mm deep, and one speaker weighs 37 kg.
Engineering and use context
The tweeter sits inside the upper midrange cone, which has a 50 mm opening for it, so the two highest bands radiate from a common centre on the baffle. ELAC calls this nested assembly StepX-JET. Splitting the midrange into two drivers keeps each cone within a narrow band, with the larger unit limited to the lower midrange. The AS cones pair a paper substrate with aluminium to add stiffness. The enclosure has a trapezoid cross-section with a wraparound, convex front baffle and a gently angled body. The bass reflex port fires downward, and the bottom assembly under the cabinet gives the speaker a raised, high-heel stance. Dual terminal pairs support bi-wiring and bi-amping, while a bi-wiring set, spikes, washers and gloves come in the box.
Pairing
ELAC names a nominal impedance of 4 ohm, but the load falls to 3.0 ohm at 360 Hz, right in the band carried by the woofers and lower midrange. That points to a solid-state design that stays stable into low impedances, and ELAC suggests anything from 60 W to 500 W per channel. The split terminals let an owner feed the woofers from one amplifier channel and the midrange and tweeter sections from another.
Alternatives
The ELAC Concentro M.2 is a much larger three-way floorstander in the range, using four 220 mm woofers and a JET 6 tweeter in a 90 kg cabinet.
