Bärbox, a young German loudspeaker brand founded by Christian Fischer, chose the slender two-way B.01 as its debut model. Fischer is a mechanical engineer by training who previously worked in the automotive industry studying body vibrations in sports cars, and he started the company after career and family changes that followed the pandemic. Every pair is assembled by hand at the workshop in Lambrecht in the Palatinate, and the list price is EUR 5,990 a pair with VAT included. The current catalogue names four models - A.01, A.02, B.01 and B.02.

Key specs that matter

Bärbox quotes a frequency range of 38 Hz to 20 kHz and a sensitivity of 87 dB measured at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm, and the stated input power is 100 W. The cabinet stands 100 cm tall on a square footprint of 24 x 24 cm, and each speaker weighs 17.5 kg. Walnut and oak are the standard wood options, and other species can be ordered on request.

Engineering and use context

Two drivers share the work in a vented cabinet - one tweeter and one mid-bass unit. Instead of a separate horn module, the tweeter sits behind a specially developed horn-shaped waveguide that is milled directly into the front baffle. The mid-bass unit uses a cone made of natural fibre. The reflex port fires downward toward the floor instead of opening on the baffle or the back. Cabinets combine solid wood with Valchromat, a coloured wood fibre board, and every part is sanded and oiled by hand so that the natural grain of the timber stays visible. Because each enclosure is cut from real timber, no two pairs look exactly alike. Wooden bars run across the front and act both as a guard for the drivers and as a visual feature of the design. The company describes the whole speaker as handcrafted in Germany, with the oiled surface left as the only finish, and it presents its speakers as objects for the living space that pair timeless forms with solid wood rather than as plain sound sources.

Pairing

Being a moderately sensitive, easy load, the B.01 works with an ordinary integrated amplifier or with separate pre and power units whose output stays within its input rating. The oiled walnut and oak cabinets are intended for living spaces where the furniture look of the speaker matters as much as its size, and a pair suits a room of about 20 m2.
