Напольная акустика — AdmiraVox AV 170

The AV 170 is a passive floorstanding loudspeaker from AdmiraVox, a Hungarian company founded by Alpar Csendes. The speakers are made by hand for each order, and the model was shown at the Budapest HiFi Show 2024. Its tall monolithic body is machined from aluminium and stands on a wooden pedestal, with the finish chosen by the customer and the maker offering to work with an interior designer on how the pair fits the room. The wooden pedestal is integrated into every piece, and the tuning was done by ear with classical and acoustic recordings as the reference material.

Key specs that matter

The sealed cabinet has no port and carries a 2.5-way layout. Four 22 cm Accuton ceramic drivers, arranged as two pairs, cover the bass and the lower midrange, while a neodymium AMT tweeter supplied by Mundorf handles the range from the 2000 Hz crossover point upwards. AdmiraVox quotes a sensitivity of 93 dB, a frequency response of 38 Hz to 32 kHz and suggested amplifier power between 50 W and 500 W. The speaker is 170 cm tall, 37 cm wide and 45 cm deep without its base and crossover. It weighs about 125 kg, the base adds about 24 kg, and the separate crossover unit weighs about 70 kg.

Engineering and use context

Every cabinet panel is CNC-milled from aluminium, 20 mm thick at the baffle and bottom and 10 mm in the side walls, with internal wooden bracing for damping and rounded baffle edges. The crossover sits in its own external housing, kept away from the vibration of the main cabinet. Inside it, Mundorf parts are used throughout - MCoil CFC10 air-core coils and MCap Supreme EVO Oil capacitors, with foil windings only and no iron-core inductors. Internal wiring is done with AudioQuest cable. The standard finish is glossy eggshell white, other colours are made on request, and an American walnut version was in development at launch. The estimated price is around EUR 200,000 per pair, with a 2-year warranty that grows to 5 years after the pair is registered with AdmiraVox.

Pairing

With its high sensitivity, the AV 170 does not demand very high power, and the wide recommended power window leaves room for both moderate and large amplifiers. The weight of the speaker, base and crossover unit together means the floor, the delivery route and the position of the external crossover box near each speaker need planning before installation.

Alternatives

AdmiraVox currently lists no other floorstanding model besides the AV 170.
