The Auralis is a floorstanding loudspeaker from Jean-Marie Reynaud (JMR), the French maker that designs, assembles, checks and fine-tunes its products in its own workshops in Charente. JMR places the Auralis at the top of its range, above established towers such as the Orfeo Grande. The European price is EUR 18,000 per pair, pre-orders opened in 2025 and first deliveries were scheduled for February 2026.
Key specs that matter
The layout is a 2.5-way design with three drivers. An 18 cm bass unit and a mid-bass unit work together up to 220 Hz, after which the mid-bass continues alone until the 1,800 Hz handover to a 120 mm AST tweeter built on the pleated diaphragm principle. JMR quotes a bandwidth of 30 Hz to 28 kHz within plus or minus 6 dB, a sensitivity of 89 dB/W/m at 2.83 V and distortion below 0.2% at an 85 dB level. The impedance suits amplifiers stable into 4 to 8 ohm, with a minimum of 4.3 ohm. Power handling is 250 W continuous and 400 W peak. Each cabinet stands 115 cm tall, 30 cm wide and 42 cm deep and weighs 45 kg.
Engineering and use context
Both woofer cones are paper treated with seven layers of carbon, and the mid-bass cone also carries polyetheretherketone plus an aluminium ogive at its centre, with a 38 mm vented voice coil behind each membrane. Bass is loaded by a tuned triangular transmission line, a proprietary JMR design, that exits through a front-firing port near the floor. The enclosure uses HDF panels between 25 and 40 mm thick, with only light internal damping and viscoelastic compounds placed at chosen points, while the tweeter sits in an epoxy resin pod. The crossover has 6, 12 and 12 dB per octave slopes and is wired by hand without a printed circuit board, using pure copper foil inductors wound on beechwood formers, ClarityCap PUR capacitors and Path Audio resistors for tweeter attenuation. Instead of spikes, a decoupling base with polymer elements and Teflon pads carries the cabinet. The finish is the seven-layer high-gloss Woodscore XO walnut veneer in a cognac tone, paired with a black baffle and machined aluminium trim.
Pairing
JMR suggests amplifiers from 40 to 300 W, and rooms from 20 m2 up to 60 m2, with the speakers 2 to 4 m apart, at least 3 m from the listener and 80 cm from the rear wall. Connection is single-wire only, through one set of terminals plus a dedicated crossover ground post.
Alternatives
The JMR Orfeo Grande is another floorstanding model in the current JMR range, built in the same Charente workshops.
