The Atom 650 is the floorstander of the Atom range from Node Audio, the Cambridge company that introduced the Hylixa in 2018. It is the larger of the two Atom models, first heard at Ascot in 2025 and on sale from March 2026, at about GBP 18,000 per pair.

Key specs that matter

The Atom 650 is a three-way transmission line loaded loudspeaker. It measures 970 x 285 x 380 mm (H x W x D). Like the Atom 525, it uses Node's Helical Transmission Line bass system and MonoCell structural damping, twin spiderless midrange drivers and a closely placed tweeter. Finishes are multi-layer acoustic fabric or seven leather options, with polished billet aluminium structural parts.

Engineering and use context

In the HTL system, energy from the bass driver feeds a middle cavity and continues along a spiral path, which reinforces and extends the bass beyond what the cabinet size would suggest. In a floorstanding cabinet, the longer path and greater volume allow more bass output than the stand-mount Atom 525. MonoCell damping uses an additively manufactured rigid lattice inside the cabinet instead of wadding, serving both as damping and as internal bracing, so the enclosure becomes a stiff monocoque with low resonance. The midrange drivers are ultra-light units without a traditional spider, and using two of them lowers the workload of each. Close placement of the tweeter and midrange keeps the drivers acting as a coherent source on both axes. The cabinet avoids flat surfaces and sharp edges, reducing edge diffraction. The fabric or leather wrap adds vibration control. Node designs and builds the whole range in Cambridge, pursuing an approach where acoustic performance and industrial design are inseparable. Node demonstrated the 650 at Ascot as a pre-production unit before production preparations were completed at the end of 2025. Reservations for private auditions opened ahead of the March 2026 launch, when the range went on sale with an expanding distribution network.

Pairing

The Atom 650 suits rooms of 20 to 40 m2 and, like the low-sensitivity Atom 525, benefits from a powerful amplifier. Its HTL bass allows placement without a subwoofer.
