The Anima, a three-way floorstander, comes from the Greek horn specialist Tune Audio, with every driver loaded by a horn. Compared with the larger Avaton it is a more compact design, measuring 158 cm high, 87 cm wide and 87 cm deep, and each speaker weighs 75 kg.
Key specs that matter
System sensitivity is 109 dB and nominal impedance is 8 ohm, and the maker lists a recommended power of more than 3 W. Published frequency response runs from 40 Hz to 20 kHz within 2 dB. The filters divide the band at 250 Hz and 1,500 Hz. A down-firing 15 inch woofer loads the bass horn, a 5 inch midrange unit modified in house feeds the mid horn, and a 1 inch compression driver with a neodymium magnet and a titanium diaphragm handles the highs. Finishes are chosen by the customer, from any paint colour to a natural wood veneer.
Engineering and use context
Both the bass and midrange horns are made of 13-layer Baltic birch plywood, while the treble horn is formed from a proprietary epoxy compound mixed with selected aggregates. Internal bracing uses brass parts separated from the panels by felt. Every section is driven through first-order crossovers built from hand-picked parts and hard-wired without circuit boards, and signal inside the cabinet travels on high-purity OFC copper conductors wrapped in waxed cotton, joined through brass and copper connections. The filter boards are placed in the lower part of the cabinet, below the bass horn. Level controls let the owner change the midrange and treble output, and the tweeter horn can be turned to align its beam with the listening seat. The woofer fires toward the floor using what Tune Audio calls a mass loading technique, which the company says lets the tall bass horn take up less space while behaving like a horn of full size. The midrange unit uses a paper cone and sits in a hand-built birch horn.
Pairing
Tune Audio points buyers to low to mid powered valve amplifiers or solid-state designs with low or no feedback, which suits single-ended triodes delivering only a few watts. Placement close to a wall or in a corner is preferred, the two speakers should sit more than 2 m apart, and the listening position should be over 3 m away, so a room of at least 20 m2 is a sensible minimum.
Alternatives
The Tune Audio Avaton is a larger fully horn-loaded floorstander from the same maker, using an 18 inch bass driver and crossing over at 120 Hz and 1,100 Hz.
