The Airmotiv XT2 is a floorstanding three-way passive design by Emotiva, designed for both stereo systems and home theatre and sold as a pair. Among the X series towers it is positioned centrally, between the XT1 and the XT3, and Emotiva no longer makes it.

Key specs that matter

The top octaves come from a folded ribbon measuring 25 by 32 mm, using a Neo magnet. A 5.25 inch midrange with a woven cone and an aluminium voice coil covers the band between 430 Hz and 3.1 kHz, and three 6 inch woven-cone woofers work below 430 Hz. Emotiva quotes a response of 40 Hz to 27 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB and an efficiency of 90 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Power handling is 250 W continuous and 500 W peak, with at least 100 W per channel recommended. Nominal impedance is 4 ohms. Without its feet each tower stands about 1137 mm tall, 216 mm wide and 311 mm deep, weighing about 22.2 kg, rising to about 27.7 kg in its box.

Engineering and use context

The enclosure pairs an HDF front baffle with a PVC laminated body. The baffle is 31 mm thick, and the cabinet uses double window bracing; a single port on the back tunes the enclosure. A satin lacquer covers the front panel. Dual 5-way binding posts give independent access to the woofer section and to the midrange and tweeter section, so the tower accepts bi-wiring or bi-amping. Within the X series the XT1 is rated down to 45 Hz, at 89 dB and 200 W, and the XT3 down to 30 Hz and at 300 W, which places the XT2 between them on bass extension and power handling. The same folded ribbon tweeter size appears across the XB2 bookshelf model and the three towers. Emotiva gives a five-year factory warranty. The company describes the design as aimed at mid-sized to large spaces.

Pairing

Given its low nominal load, the XT2 calls for an amplifier that meets the recommended power and is comfortable with low-impedance speakers. Owners with a spare stereo amplifier can run the woofers from one pair of channels and the upper section from another through the split terminals. In a home theatre the tower works as a front left or right channel next to the XC centre speakers of the same series.
