The Adamantis is a passive three-way floorstander made by Aequo Audio, a Dutch company based in Eindhoven whose founder and chief technologist is Ivo Sparidaens. Aequo presents it as a modernised, perfected version of proven passive speaker concepts, built around the company's own cabinet material and tweeter lens. Aequo also keeps a list of legacy models such as the Ensis. The Adamantis sits in the current range next to the Ensium, which uses bass assistance instead of a purely passive layout.

Key specs that matter

The Adamantis uses three drivers. A 10-inch aluminium cone woofer, whose voice coil can travel 50 mm, reproduces the lowest range, a 5-inch Nomex-coated paper composite driver handles the mid-bass, and an Aequo SF40 tweeter sits behind the company's EHDL horizontal dispersion lens. Aequo quotes a frequency range of 20 Hz to 45 kHz and a sensitivity of 89 dB. Each cabinet measures 116 x 52 x 42 cm and weighs 129 kg.

Engineering and use context

The whole speaker body is cast rather than assembled from panels, using Diluvite, a nano-material developed by Aequo that turns cabinet vibration into heat across the entire frequency range. The company states that Diluvite is two times stiffer than aluminium and has ten times better damping. The EHDL lens in front of the tweeter is intended to correct irregularities in the top octave response and to keep dispersion controlled vertically as well as horizontally, pairing it with a low distortion moving coil tweeter. Maximum output is rated at more than 116 dB with 500 W, which shows how much power the drivers are meant to accept. With the woofer relying on long voice coil travel rather than a large cone area, the design keeps a comparatively narrow front for a speaker of this weight.

Pairing

According to Aequo, 20 W is the least amplifier power usable here, and more than 50 W is advised. The impedance is rated at 8 ohm nominal, with a minimum of 3 ohm stated by Aequo. As a fully passive model, the Adamantis has no mains connection and relies entirely on the external amplifier for the bass section as well.

Alternatives

The Aequo Ensium is a floorstander in the same cabinet format that adds the analogue ARPEC bass assistance, with a quoted range reaching down to 16 Hz.
