Gold Note of Italy announced the A6 EVO II three-way tower in August 2021 together with the A3 EVO II bookshelf model. Gold Note says that the cabinet and drivers are made entirely in Italy by local suppliers and craftsmen, and the model received a newly designed front panel compared with the earlier version. In the UK the launch price for a pair was GBP 6,000, and the high-gloss walnut version cost GBP 500 more than black gloss or matt walnut.

Key specs that matter

In the maker's data the response spans 40 Hz to 20 kHz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 88 dB SPL at 2.83 V and 1 m, and nominal impedance is 4 ohm. Gold Note suggests an amplifier of at least 20 W and gives maximum power handling of 150 W RMS. Drivers comprise a silk dome tweeter, two mid-woofers with treated paper cones and one 6 inch internal subwoofer, with crossovers working at 12 dB per octave. Each speaker is 230 mm wide, 1080 mm tall and 285 mm deep, and a pair weighs 60 kg net or 80 kg boxed.

Engineering and use context

The side panels follow the diamond shape used across the A series, a form intended to control vibration, and aluminium insertions in the cabinet add rigidity to the structure. The tweeter comes from Audax and has a rigid aluminium flange and was tuned specifically for this speaker, while the mid-woofers are SEAS units with massive magnets. The subwoofer sits in a separate sealed chamber and uses a custom injection-moulded metal chassis. It fires downward toward the floor, and the speaker stands on a solid wooden base with a bottom bass reflex port, a base that Gold Note says was matched to the subwoofer for bass extension and easy positioning and which measures 288 mm wide, 44 mm tall and 441 mm deep. For the EVO II version the launch announcement also lists a new crossover design. Crossover components come exclusively from Mundorf and from the maker of Clarity capacitors. The cabinet is finished in black, with glossy or matt walnut side panels, and the terminals are nickel-free gold-plated binding posts from Gold Note.

Pairing

The slim cabinet is meant for rooms where space is limited, and the model shares its Audax tweeter with the A3 EVO II bookshelf speaker. Gold Note says the mid-woofers are fully made in Italy and designed for fast transients and extended bass output.

For a larger floorstander, Gold Note offers the XS-85, a three-way design with two 9 inch woofers.
