The V15C is the bigger Power Monitor model from Vestlyd, a Danish label born inside Nordic Hifi A/S, the company behind the Hifi Klubben stores. Inspired by big 1970s monitor boxes, it is intended for larger rooms than the smaller V12C, and the maker's price is EUR 1,898 per pair.

Key specs that matter

One two-way coaxial unit handles the full range. Its 15 inch paper cone woofer, with a cone diameter of about 380 mm and a ferrite motor, sits around a 1 inch laminated titanium dome tweeter driven by a neodymium motor. The two sections hand over at 1,100 Hz. Vestlyd rates the frequency response from 36 Hz to 22,000 Hz, sensitivity at 95 dB and nominal impedance at 4 ohm, and gives a maximum power handling of 500 W. Each cabinet is 74.2 cm high, 46.8 cm wide and 41.7 cm deep and weighs 30.5 kg net.

Engineering and use context

With the tweeter built into the motor system of the woofer, both drivers radiate from one point, keeping their arrival times aligned and giving broad coverage, so the speakers are meant to face straight ahead without toe-in. Voice coil lead wires are attached to the spider for reliability at large excursions, and gaps behind the driver motors help shed heat. The maker notes that the lower frequency limit is a -6 dB point, and the crossover is placed low to keep the midrange on a single cone. The braced MDF enclosure, with a front baffle 3 cm thick, works as a vented box with two front-facing ports, keeping the port output on the baffle side rather than towards the wall behind. Wiring is single-wire only, via terminals that take banana plugs or bare cable. Buyers can choose an oak finish in PVC or a black synthetic leather wrap, and each pair ships with front covers and rubber feet. Although it is a bookshelf model, the size and weight mean it really needs a low, rigid stand or a solid platform.

Pairing

With this efficiency, even low-powered amplifiers, valve designs included, reach loud levels, as long as the amplifier is comfortable with a low-impedance load. The generous power ceiling also leaves room for high-output transistor amplifiers when very high levels in a large space are the goal. Bi-wiring is not supported, so a single cable per channel does the job.
