The TuneTot is a compact two-way loudspeaker from Wilson Audio of the United States, created by the Wilson Special Applications Engineering team, known as WSAE. Wilson presented it as the latest product of that group, and its name is a homage to the first WSAE design. The brief was a speaker for acoustically hostile installations, meant to sit near a room boundary on a bookshelf, a piece of furniture or a similar architectural element rather than out in free space. In 2018 the pair price was USD 9,800 or USD 10,500, depending on the chosen colour.
Key specs that matter
A 1 inch (2.54 cm) doped silk fabric tweeter works in its own sealed enclosure, and a 5.75 inch (14.61 cm) doped paper pulp woofer is loaded by a slot-shaped port on the rear. Wilson rates sensitivity at 86 dB for 1 W at 1 m and 1 kHz. The nominal impedance is 8 ohm, and the curve reaches its lowest value of 6.61 ohm at 172 Hz. Frequency response spans 65 Hz to 23 kHz within 3 dB, stated as a room average response. Without spikes each cabinet stands 37.67 cm tall, 21.87 cm wide and 25.88 cm deep, and weighs 13.15 kg.
Engineering and use context
The enclosure combines two proprietary Wilson composites, X-material and S-material, and Wilson says the cabinet and driver technology come directly from its Alexx and Sabrina floorstanders. A single pair of five-way binding posts is angled upward on the back panel. Long adjustable spikes and short fixed ones screw into the base, so the angle of the baffle can be set to suit the listening height. Options sold separately include the ISOBase platform at USD 2,100 per pair, fabric grilles in six colours at USD 299 per pair, aluminium rings that cover the woofer screws at USD 649 per pair, and a resistor kit for fine-tuning the crossover. A dedicated TuneTot stand was designed for high stability and very low resonance and places the baffle at the correct alignment in the time domain. It measures 59.4 cm high without spikes and 63.5 cm with them. Standard WilsonGloss colours are Galaxy Gray, GT Silver, Quartz, Carbon and Grigio Medio, with many further paint options at extra cost.
Pairing
Because impedance never drops far below nominal, the TuneTot is an easy electrical load, and Wilson asks for at least 25 W per channel. With sensitivity on the low side, an amplifier rated well above that minimum leaves more reserve, and the dedicated stand turns the TuneTot into a conventional stand-mount where no shelf is available.
Alternatives
Wilson Audio also builds the larger Duette Series 2, a two-way near-wall design with an 8-inch woofer, a 1-inch tweeter and 92 dB sensitivity at 4 ohms nominal.
