The Super 10A is a two-way standmount loudspeaker in the Cardea series from Kudos Audio, the British maker based in the north of England. It is a bass reflex design and is described as active ready, meaning its passive crossover can be bypassed so the drivers can be powered by separate amplifier channels. Finishes offered are Walnut, Natural Oak, Black Oak and Satin White.
Key specs that matter
For treble Kudos fits a 29 mm fabric dome, the SEAS-Kudos Crescendo K2, made to a Kudos specification. Below it sits a Kudos 180 mm mid-bass unit with a cast chassis, a coated paper cone and a 39 mm voice coil. Frequency response is quoted as 40 Hz to 30 kHz, measured as an average in-room figure rather than anechoic. Sensitivity is 87 dB at 1 W and 1 m, nominal impedance is 8 ohm, and Kudos recommends amplifiers of 25 W to 200 W. Each cabinet is 350 mm high, 200 mm wide and 270 mm deep and weighs 10.5 kg. Connection is through 4 mm sockets.
Engineering and use context
Kudos uses a low-order crossover. On the low-frequency side it is a first-order electrical filter, built around a low-resistance Mundorf air-core inductor to avoid the distortion an iron core can add. The other crossover parts are MResist Supreme resistors from Mundorf together with ClarityCap parts using CopperConnect technology. Interior materials in the reflex cabinet are chosen to control unwanted vibration in the panels. The same crossover layout allows the network to be bypassed, and Kudos names its own SIGAO DRIVE for active operation, while amplifiers from other brands can also be used in that mode. In passive form the speaker needs only a single pair of cables from a stereo amplifier. The Cardea range also includes the Super 20A floorstander, which follows the same construction principles.
Pairing
The moderate sensitivity and easy nominal load mean a modest integrated amplifier within the recommended power band will drive the Super 10A in a 20 m2 living room. Owners planning an active system can start passively and later move to the Kudos SIGAO DRIVE without changing speakers. Rigid stands are needed, because Kudos designed the cabinet as a standmount.
Alternatives
The Kudos Titan 505 is a larger standmount with two 180 mm mid-bass units in an isobaric reflex layout and a 6 ohm nominal impedance.
