The SourcePoint 10 Master Edition is a two-way loudspeaker for stands, made by MoFi Electronics as a revised form of the original SourcePoint 10 designed by Andrew Jones. MoFi names three changes over the earlier model - an upgraded crossover with precision-selected parts, improved impedance linearity and a new switch for adjusting the mid and high range. The custom 10-inch concentric driver used in the design came out of 18 months of research and development. A floorstanding sibling built on the same idea is sold as the SourcePoint V10 Master Edition.

Key specs that matter

Low and middle frequencies come from a 10-inch paper-pulp cone, while a 1.25-inch soft dome tweeter with a wide-roll surround is fitted at its centre, with the crossover set at 1.6 kHz. The enclosure is a vented two-way box. MoFi quotes a frequency response of 42 Hz to 30 kHz and a sensitivity of 91 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Each cabinet measures 368 x 572 x 422 mm with the grille in place, or 406 mm deep without it, and weighs 21 kg. The warranty runs five years for parts and labour.

Engineering and use context

The Twin-Drive magnet system uses high-flux neodymium to build a fully symmetrical magnetic field, which MoFi says eliminates flux modulation and keeps intermodulation distortion extremely low. By the maker's figures the 10-inch cone offers nearly 2.5 times the surface area of a typical 6.5-inch driver. The Master Edition crossover is assembled with polypropylene film capacitors, metalized-film resistors and air-core inductors. Cabinet sides are 1-inch MDF, the faceted front baffle is 2 inches thick and extensive bracing stiffens the interior, while two large rear-firing vents load the bass. A three-position tweeter level switch gives high, mid and low settings. Book-matched real wood veneer comes in satin walnut with grey grilles or satin black ash with black grilles, and the fabric-wrapped grilles attach with magnets.

Pairing

MoFi sets the minimum recommended amplifier power at 30 W and the maximum input at 200 W. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms and the minimum is given as 6.2 ohms. Amplifier cables attach to a single set of five-way binding posts. The speaker can be ordered on its own, with standard stands or with low-slung stands.

The MoFi SourcePoint 8 is the smaller bookshelf model in the range, built around an eight-inch concentric driver with the same Twin-Drive magnet structure.
